Chubby 1 good for bowl lathering?

I am thinking of getting a Simpson Chubby 1 best, but I keep reading here that this is not a good brush for creams or bowl lathering. Anyone here find this brush ok for bowl lathering? Or creams? :001_unsur

It certainly can be used to bowl lather, but its size and the knot loft don't make it ideal for it. The short handle and short loft equal a small brush. If your lathering bowl is very deep, you will probably spend most of your time banging the brush against the sides of the bowl. This doesn't mean it won't work for bowl lathering, just not the best match. Now for face-lathering, it is about perfect.

I have a chubby 2 and its a good brush.

For bowl lathering, however, I think there are better brushes suited to the task than the Chubby 1

I found the handle to be a little short to use comfortably in a bowl. This is not to say that you can't. You may bang up your knuckles a little bit but there is no "law" against using a chubby 1 to whip up a lather in a shaving bowl.

You might find a brush with a longer handle more comfortable to use when bowl lathering and keep the Chubby 1 for face lathering which is does a wonderful job of doing.

Right on the money here....I would echo this having owned this brush on 4 separate occassions

Better for that use and in the same price range would be either the Persian Jar 2 or the 58, both in Best. For significantly less money the Commodore (X3) would also be excellent.

Thanks for your input guys. I still might buy one and use it with my small Moss, as I do like to face lather at times.

That is the nature of SBAD. I say buy it, especially if you already have a brush or two that are good for bowl lathering. Maybe it's time to change things up a little. :wink2:

Get a Chubby 2 or a Chubby 1.5 (The Duke 3) instead IMHO.
Better hybrid brushes than Chubby 1 because of their better sized handles. YMMV of course...
