Chrom Ox Strop Application Done Right or Wrong?

Have I applied the Chrom Ox paste (from Maggards .50 micron) to my canvas strop correctly or not (picture below)? Do I need more or less? I applied by first rubbing in with my palm and tied to spread it evenly across the strop (not easy to do). I then moved to using a microfiber towel. Thanks in advance for any feedback and I plan to start occasionally using to buff up / polish my edge as needed!

Use it.
See if it works for you.
The more you rub it in, the less effective it can be, which might be a good thing.
Do not add more crox. The amount is fine, the question is going to be whether or not you'll get an even result.
No need to get paste that close to the bolster. You really only need a 6-8" section in the middle.

Yup less is more, often we see way too much paste applied and it gets all over everything including you unpasted leather strop.

When I apply a creamy paste or stick, I apply in 3-inch X’s, this is just enough to get even and full uniform coverage on a strop without over pasting.

After applying paste, ensure that your blade is clean before stropping on your clean leather or you will paste your leather strop.

One of the tricks to using a pasted strop is to avoid the temptation to use more pressure. Chrome Oxide can give you a nice comfortable shaving edge and will keep a razor shaving for a long time.

It is best to paste a separate strop, Cotton or Nylon to prevent contamination. You will/should still use you linen strop daily, post shaving to clean and dry your blade, bevel and edge.

A good way to experiment with paste is to cut a cereal box into 3-inch strips and strop on the edge of a table or bench. Once you have settled on a paste, make a dedicated strop with 2-inch strapping from a fabric store or buy a separate linen.

The problem with paste, is once pasted, it can never be completely removed from a linen or leather strop.

Tony Miller sells a dedicated single component, cloth only strop for $22.50. His Flax linen and Hemp strop are equal to many of the Firehose strops on the market. The Cotton strop would make a good dedicated pasted strop. His replacement cloth only strops are $10.

Sweet - thanks Gents. Appreciate all the feedback and insights. Doing it over, I would have applied different haha. Glad it’s good enough for now. Good learning lesson. I’m sure it’ll be the first of many strops I end up owning, destroying (with bad techniques / practices) and experimenting with!
