I finally got my new Dovo special and strop for Christmas. I had a suspicion that it wouldn't be shave ready and it wasn't. After being mildly disappointed I fired off an SMS to a professional honer just a 40 minute drive away and he invited me out not just to get it shave ready but also for a free honing lesson. Nice!
the guy was really cool and gave me a lot of great advice and put a fantastic edge on the Dovo. What's more, he confirmed that the 3000/8000 stone I picked up on amazon Germany would be a fine stone for keeping the edge in good shape every 8 to 10 shaves. He started out on 1000 grit and worked up to 8000 and finished it off on a Belgian yellow. It was fantastic seeing a pro at work. Christmas was saved.
So now it's time for my first shave with a straight and I'm going to follow his advice on that too. Cheeks only to start with, and finish off with a DE. And, start using the left hand from the start. Get used to shaving as a lefty on the left side.
Hope you've all had a great holiday and I wish you all a happy new year.
