Choosing an Open Comb

I have a DE89 and a Futur which I use with Feather blades and I love them. Just looking to add another for variety and thought I'd try an OC. Looking for somewhat on the aggressive side. Any suggestions? Or should I even try an OC? Thanks.

Gillette long comb NEW. I like my ball-end handle, there is also the fat handle.

Loaded with a Gillette 7 O'clock SharpEdge blade, its the closest shave I can get on my neck. And pretty smooth, as well.

I have no other experience with OC, just the NEW. Mine is out right now for a nickel plating, so that it will last the rest of my life, and I can pass it down...

For the price you can't go wrong with a Cadet OC. The nice thing is they come in a variaty of handle styles / weights and lengths so you an select one best suited to your preferences. You also can't go wrong with a Fatip or any vintage Gillette OC.

I own all of these and a few more OC's, and I really do appreciate the Cadet/RR lineup. Nicely built, aggressive, new and fairly inexpensive. Not quite R41 aggressive, but on par with my Fatip for sure.

I Love my new. It is more aggressive than my Slim Adjustable, so I have to use a not-so-aggressive blade with it.

I like my New Long Comb with a Gillette 7 O'Clock Black.

Nice. Have you had a chance to shave with it yet? I think I would like to try a short comb next.

The first razor I ever bought was an R89. I used it for about 4 months. I found the short comb in an antique shop, about 3 months ago, and tried it out. I haven't touched the R89 since :). I really want to do some grinding on it, get it plated and buy a Weber so I can use the handle on my new and have a stainless head. I've always wondered about the long comb comparison.

I agree with the Cadet recommendation. Affordable, looks nice, and I prefer it to my Merkur 11C

+1. The Gillette New LC is my favorite.

I'll cast another vote for the long comb NEW. It was my first DE, and still one of my favorites. I've also used an Old Type, and that's a good one too, but of the two, I prefer the NEW. I can't comment on the New Improved, because I just got mine yesterday and haven't had the chance to use it yet.

I have three OCs: 1914 Gillette Bell Tip (Aristocrat), a Gillette New, and a Tradere.

The Tradere is the most aggressive.

+1 on the LC New. I also have a short comb New, which is a superb shaver, but the LC has a slight edge, I think. You're gonna love that New Improved, too. That was my grail razor for a long time, and I'm definitely glad I finally hunted one down in the wild!
