Chinese TTO for 3 bucks with shipping!

Guys! have you checked the bay for chinese version of TTO razors? 3-4 bucks with shipping!

Have someone found the courage to try one? LOL. It's too cheap to do not buy!

I haven't tried one yet, but a friend did. He found it way too light to produce a good shave, he went right back to his 40's style ss. We bought them for the cases to put ss & flares in.

I took a look and am guessing that these are Weishi's. If you do a search of the forum, you will find a fair number of comments about these. I have the Weishi 9306F, which is supposed to be a slightly heavier version. It is actually a fairly decent razor. To me it feels slightly more aggressive than my SS Flair Tip, and I always get BBS from it with virtually any blade. Its major drawback to me is that, even though the heavier version, it still feels a touch light and flimsy, but so far no problems. I keep it in my travel kit as my on-the-road razor.

I'm also guessing you are talking about the Weishi. I think they are okay, I can get a decent enough shave with them just all of my other razors are better. Worth buying though especially for that price.

I have a feeling I'd be ahead to flush $2 down the toilet than to spend $3 on a Chinese TTO razor. My 2 cents.

i got a couple of those cheap chinese superspeed copys, i dont think they were weishi, the were a lot worse, the ones i had looked as if they were made from pressed tin,the blade gap was uneven and damned dangerous, after a couple of shaving strokes i tossed them in the bin.

A number of us have had good experiences with them to more than warrant the nominal cost. Also, if you are looking to buy one, 1) look at the descriptions of the variations, since some seem to be heavier and/or better made than others and 2) consider spending a couple of bucks more for one that ships with a case that is actually a decent travel case.

I was going to say that. I have a Ming-shi which is not terribly bad, and a RiMei which is actually pretty decent. That one comes from Amazon for about two bucks and a quarter including shipping.

I've tried the Weishi 9306B, and it was a decent shaver. So much so that I bought 2 more and gave them as gifts to prospective newbi's, but as time wore on I decided to give the traditional 40's SS as they are more durable. I dropped one of my Weishi's and it screwed up the doors on it. They also aren't heavy enough for me. But...YMMV.

I got one and it was garbage. The head and TTO knob were made of plastic. Too flimsy for me to even think about trying. Weishi and the three piece Right Me I are much better.

I have both a 9306-G Weishi TTO as well as a $1.99, shipping included Chinese TTO that I bought for a cheap travel case for my black tip super speed. Side by side comparisons are:

Razor #1 Weishi 9306-G, Around $16 (shipping inc. with 15 dorco blades) weighs 54g, chrome plated, all metal and shaves well for a mild razor. I have no idea how it holds up over time since I only used it a couple of times but it is safe to assume that dropping it would likely not be a good outcome. It should not be confused with the cheaper and much lighter Weishi 2003-M.

Razor #2 $1.99 (shipping inc.) Chinese no name TTO, weighs 49g, chrome plated and difficult to tell apart from the Weishi except that the TTO turn knob on the bottom of the handle is chrome plated lighter pot metal and poorly finished molding. I have not shaved with it since as you can see in the picture, I only purchased it for the box for my Gillette black tip S/S.

My final thoughts are, if you need a $2 case for your travel razor, go for it. If you want a cheap TTO razor that will serve you well, I highly recommend a vintage superspeed over a Weishi.

For laughs and giggles, I just tried shaving with the $1.99 (shipping inc.) TTO that I reference above. Keeping it short and sweet, it actually shaves nothing like a Weishi 9306-G and has its own tolerances that barely register any blade gap. It was ridiculously mild and barely cut any beard. After 2 passes, WTG and ATG, I gave up, binned the razor and got to work on the beard with a proper DE razor, my trusty Slim adjustable. As I said earlier, if you need a $2 case for your superspeed, this is it but don't think that you will be shaving with the actual razor.

I just received a Ri Mei today. I have not shaved with it yet, but it is much better build quality than I expected. It feels a little light, but the bottom of the handle screws off and you could put something in it to add weight. At $2.59 shipped, I think it is worth trying.

Nowadays we can't find no more Gillette Techs or super speeds for US$ 5, Ri Mei is THE KING of cost-benefit ratio for safety razors. There is no doubt.

Maybe, but I bet my 1948 superspeed bought for 10 bucks will outlast 10 razors that cost under a fiver each.
