Cheap Mugs

I was in a local Walmart and found MY perfect soap mug.

Cruising down the home isles I found their $1 cups. It's wider at the top then bottom so perfect for soap cakes and starting a lather. Tall enough to fill with hot water and soak my brush while softening up the soap and also, when kept in the sink with water I dont splash water from the sink into it or knock it over. It keeps the brush warm for a good 2-3 passes but it's no scuttle but what do you expect for a buck.

Bonus is I can fit 3 across inside the medicine cabinet shelf and close the door.

YMMV but thought I'd throw it out there.

From Walmart I got a makeshift skuttle for 3 bucks. Its a 2 piece planter, the bowl can hold warm water for 30-40 min, the pot is big enough ( almost 3" deep, 3.5" wide)to make lather.
Its pretty good imo.

Nice find! I had a similar one, but mine's a bit more random. I got a new dog yesterday (great dane) and was at the pet store picking up a new collar, leash, etc. for him and I walked through the sale section. They had these stainless steel dog dishes marked down to $3.50 and they're the perfet size for a soap bowl. You can't tell it's a dog dish, and if you were to look at it you'd assume is one of the $35+ bowls made specifically for shaving. The BEST part is there's a black rubber ring around the top lip of the bowl, which prevents the annoying *clang*clang*clang* sound while I'm lathering.

I can beat $1.

I got my shaving mug at a thrift shop (Goodwill) for 49 cents. Looks good, works well, I'm all set.

That's better than mine! I bought one (roughly same size and dimensions of the typical OS shaving mugs) for $0.69 at a Salvation Army store over the weekend. Pretty nice, it was just what I was looking for, and is in the old two-tone crockery colors. :w00t:

Free. Found when I was cleaning out an apartment.

Green plaid like a Scottsman kilt with a gilded lip. About the size of an Old Spice mug, but slightly smaller with thinner walls. Obviously not designed for shaving soap but it works well and looks good.

I use a blue Thomas O'Brien shaving bowl from Target that I got for $3.99. It's fantastic. However, I'm conviced that an onion soup bowl would make a perfect lathering bowl. One of these days I'm going to grab one.

Cool I am using an oversized Coffee mug from the Bob Bullock Texas History Musuem in Austin. It has a fine hair line crack in the glaze. It never leaked but when I got started DE shaving I found it to be the best size to use.

I use the same bowl from Target I think. It's the smaller "dipping bowl" that's dark blue, with a hint of brown, right? I actually bought two, one for soap, and one for creams, and will probably buy a third to hold hot water so I can set my lather bowl of choice down into it.

I actually had found a really cool Bauer bowl from around 1950 at a thrift store, but right after getting it home I cracked it in half as I was pressing the grated soap down into it. I guess it had some old hairline cracks, and didn't take too well to pushing down on it. I was really bummed, since it was the perfect size/shape, but I found the bowl at Target later that night, so I'm happy now.
