Cheap DE razor experiences?

Hello B&B patrons!! Has anybody ever tried a cheap (by price) DE razor and actually really enjoy it? I've found a few on Amazon, but not sure if spending even a few dollars is worth it. I would like to just start a collection and figured 'why not?', but I would still like to be able to use them practically. Not sure if anybody has any experience with something like that and would like to share your input? Thanks everyone!!

The lord LP1822. When I got my first I already had a couple of Gillettes, the Merkurs 25C,33C and 37G, a Fatip, the Mühles R89,R41 (with Merkur OC head, later the 'beast' as well) and a bunch of other stuff.

The Lord gets more use than the other DE's combined and the only razor I really put above it is a vintage Gladweg. It is an awesome mild yet effective shaver that started out as a travel-razor but became my go-to razor.

I have several vintage Gillette razors that I have picked up for $10 or less and they are awesome.

If you are strictly referring to the inexpensive modern razors, I haven't tried any, nor am I likely to.

The Lord L6 was the only one I found worth trying. I've tried a few cheapies from the bay, and it's possible i just had bad luck, but all had issues with blade alignment that couldn't be fixed. I tossed them shortly after getting them.

I have a Ri'Mei. It is available on amazon for $2 or $3 shipped most of the time. It is not listed by brand on amazon, but you can recognize by the price. It is the same as a Concord, just branded for the Asian market. It is a fine shaver. It seems to me that the difference in cost of the less expensive razors is due to inferior materials. They probably won't last as long as the higher quality razors, but should shave fine and last at least long enough for you to learn to shave well and learn what you would like in a razor.

Here are some pics of my Ri'Mei next to a Tech. In 50 years the Tech will still be in the same condition, but I doubt the Ri'Mei will be.

+1 on the Lord L6 razor.
Also, if the budget is stretched to $20, some of the cadet models and variants go for that much and those are excellent razors. Check shaveabuck and italianbarber.

If we are talking used/vintage then the sky , well, the floor is the limit for the price for some outstanding razors, made in the times where things were built to last a lifetime and more....

You probably have noticed that the blade gets perfectly aligned every time. You cannot get the same result with a Tech.

That looks like my junjie but with different handle knurling and a better cap. Are the base plate and handle on your razor highly magnetic?

Baseplate yes. Handle no. I would also like to note that when considering the price you should take into account that to get it for $2 shipped there will be a 3-5 week shipping time. The seller apparently buys them at the wholesale Chinese price and ships them standard post from Hong Kong. I ordered it then bought a $12 Shaving Factory (Ming Shui?) razor locally because I was impatient. When it came in though I liked it much better, but just throw away the blade that comes with it.

I had bought this same razor with a pack of Derby blades when I first started. It was not a bad shaver to see if I liked DE shaving. Right after getting a Fatboy from my grandfather I stopped using it. It is just not the same.

I would recommend this to anyone as a starter. I just couldn't see spending $40-50 to find out what kind of razor I really wanted. On the other hand I understand those who think you should start out with a razor that will last a lifetime.

Awesome replies everyone (and pics). For those that asked, my original meaning for this post was asking about the cheap modern day razors (non-vintage). Although, I love seeing pictures of those vintage DE razors and I can't wait to start my collection!!!

I like the Yuma it can be a little tricky to get the blade aligned at times but I find it to be extremely mild. You can get vintage Gillette and Schick DE for under $10 shipped if you're patient and they tend to be mild razors.

The Ri'Mei in the picture is a modern razor. I just put the tech in the picture so everyone could compare the blade exposure, size, etc. Of course, since I got the Tech for $5 and that seems to be about the market price, they are in the same price range.
