Hope everyone had a great Fourth of July. With all the grilling the last couple of days... I was wondering what you prefer: charcoal or propane? I prefer grilling on a charcoal grill. I know it's very messy compared to propane but the final results are "BBS". Charcoal grilling beats propane IMHO.

So... how 'bout U? Charcoal? Propane? I am looking forward to reading your thoughts and inputs. On a side note... if U have "The Big Green Egg"... please tell us your experience and inputs on "The Big Green Egg".

In before the lock. This one is going to get messy!:a11:

For the record though, I have a simple Weber kettle and use lump charcoal.

I voted propane. Charcoal gives better flavor, but propane is less cleanup and much more convenient and that's a winning combo for my lazy butt hulking over the grill a on blistering 95-100° day.

I love charcoal and more specifically, I love natural lump charcoal in a ceramic grill!

That said, I had gassers for 22 years and made some darn good meals.

I voted propane, but that may change as I just got a Weber kettle and used it for my 4th of July cookout.

Folks always say how much of a PITA it is to clean up after a charcoal grilling. Personally, I don't understand that. Propane is fine, but charcoal is the way to go for me.

I agree. Charcoal couldn't be easier. I have one of the Weber chimney starters. Charcoal in the top, paper in the bottom. Light the paper and I have roaring coals in no time. Dump them out, put on the grate, and cover for a few minutes for everything to get hot. Its not instant on, but its pretty darn easy. When I'm done, I close up all of the holes to put out the charcoal. Those get used again next time in addition to fresh stuff too.

Prefer charcoal, but I use propane more due to convenience and cleanliness. I grill all summer long, but most of the time I work 10 - 12 hour days (sometimes more). Propane is just easier on those nights.

When we grill, we always use Kingsford charcoal with soaked Apple wood chips!!!

I couldn't have said it better myself. I have both and when the weather is nice I break out the Charcoal but this past 4th of July the heat index was over 100 where I live and it was gas all the way!
