Changing pucks shaving soap bowls

Hello!

I've been wet shaving now for about a month and love the quality shaves I get and the ability to experiment. I started with RS sensitive shave cream. I now rotate between that and proraso. I would like to start with shaving soap and am looking at starting with TOBS Lavendar Soap with the wooden bowl.

Now this may sound like a funny question, but I'm the only person who's into $this stuff that I know. Will other soaps, such as Trumpers or T&H, fit in to the TOBS wooden bowl after I finish the initial puck?

I cannot answer your question, but I will say that I find my puck of TOBS sandalwood soap lacking. It creates a good lather and is decently slick, but the cushion it provides me is less than other soaps. MWF on the other hand, that is my current favorite soap by far.

Yes, most 5ish ounce soaps with fit in other soap containers. E.g., I use the same type container for Art of Shaving, MWF, and Prairie Creations.

The container had a dimple on the bottom, though, so the MWF moved around a lot. I shredded some in a cheese grater to mash around the bottom, then stuck the rest of the puck on top so it won't move.

So for hard, milled, tallow based soaps, you can shred them into any ziploc/glad/tupperware container and keep a lid on it to keep the scent in. For glycerin based soaps like VDH, melt them slightly in the microwave and press them to form them to the right size.

Note that some soaps may lather or load onto the brush slightly differently after milling or melting.

Of course, if you are like a lot of us here, you will never finish a soap.
You will keep buying, trying and rotating different soaps. Many here have soaps that are over 5 years old with lots left. :w00t:

I ended up ordering Trumpers Eucris, MWF and Pre de Provence. I'm well on my way! Yikes! Its so hard to decide. I also purchased an EJ nickel plated soap dish. Hopefully that will work with all of the soaps. The Trumpers does come with a nice black dish.

TOBS Lavender is one of my favorite hard milled soaps. It is a top performer with great lather and a wonderful scent. The only other wooden bowls that I can compare the TOBS to is Trumpers. They are different in height and diameter. I tried to interchange them and found that the TOBS is too small for the GFT bowl and the GFT does not fit in the TOBS bowl. So now you have an excuse to purchase a new bowl of whatever you wish.

Enjoy,

Doug

That is exactly the answer I'm looking for...thanks Doug. I already purchased the trumpers, so I guess I'll have to wait a little while because I bought some other kinds.
