changing blades in Weber seems to dangerous

The lugs off to the side of the middle one hold the blade firmly in place after disassembling the razor. Even with holding sides and lifting up they seem to almost grip the razor blade making it feel like I'm going to slip and cut myself. I don't understand why Weber couldn't have done something like the Merkur 34C or EJ DE89 where the blade just sort of falls out once you disassemble it.

I've yet to cut myself but often even putting it back together makes it feel like I'm about to slice myself open. I'm extremely careful about blades in general as I've never cut myself seriously.

Are you sure those lugs are the culprits?
The very same thing happens to me when I use Astra blades and have the waxed side up, towards the top cap. When I have a blade stuck like that I run it through hot water a couple of seconds and the wax let go. If I am not in a rush, I just put the top plate (with the stuck blade) aside while I finish cleaning up. In about a minute or so the blade will pop up.
Could this be your problem as well?

It seems like a loose blade wiggling around would be far more dangerous than one that is held in place firmly. It would be near impossible to cut yourself pushing straight down on the edges (sides) of the blade, away from the cap. Is that how you're removing the blade?

You might be right since it was a ASTRA SP...

@Cessnabird
usually I just pull them up from the side...

Astra would explain it, especially the first shave or so when the 4 dots of sticky wax are still fresh. If it doesn't stick anymore after 3-4 shaves that might be the answer, once the wax has rinsed off mostly.

I usually use a towel to protect my hand. Although the slipping is unlikely, I work with my hands - no sense to take unnecessary risks.
