Challenge Razor

I was in Las Vegas this weekend. I hate gambling so I left my wife with the inlaws at the casinos and I went straight razor hunting. There's a great neighborhood of antique places in the Arts District. Unfortunately, not much luck for straight razors. One guy wanted $175 for a razor with naked lady scales. That was a little rich for my blood. But I found this one for a bit less.

And then I got to thinking. I had just won an auction for a Challenge Razor. Could they be related? Turns out that they are.
BJ Eyre, who studied under William Greaves, bought the Challenge Razor trademark and used it from 1867 until he sold it in 1877 to Wiebusch of NY. William Taussing opened Challenge Razor Works as a subsidiary in Connecticut. They used Sheffield razors until 1914 that were marked Sheffield. Which puts the one above between 1914 and the companies demise in 1928. And this one below 1867-1877.
