Vikings at the Gate: Week nine, blade nine, Vikings Sword Super Stainless.

I got a phantom weeper this morning. On my final pass ATG I didn’t feel a thing but after the last pass, there it was on my left cheek near my lips. I was a little disappointed but over all the shave was fine apart from the weeper. Hopefully no more tomorrow morning.

Viking Sword Blade 1 Shave 18

Yes, that is an Ever Ready 1912 razor. This particular razor can use snapped in half DEs if I take care in loading the blade and keeping an eye on it during the shave. I have other 1912 models that do not work well with that, so please don't follow my lead on this.

Anyway, this was a great shave. I often can use a blade at the end of its DE life this way for a few more shaves. Something about the 1912 seems to get a few more shaves out of tired DEs.

Much better shave this morning. No blood, no irritation and minimal sting when I used my Alum Block. I hope that the next two shaves go well and that the blade still seems sharp enough to go another round. Time will tell.

I had the dreaded Phantom weeper again this morning. Again I didn’t feel anything but there was a weeper in almost the same place on the left side of my face not far from my lip line. It is always after my third and final pass ATG. Must have my razor angle off slightly. Apart from that the shave was fine.

Pre: Shower, Warm water rinse
Blade: Viking Sword
Razor: Greencult 1.0
Brush: Semogue 830
Soap: C&F Santa's Workshop
Post: Lukewarm rinse, Thayer's Cranberry & Orange Toner WH, Nivea Men Sensitive PSB

Starting Round #5, a seemingly playful Greencult Razor decided it was open season on skin tags. I avoided most of the tags, but overlooked one, right under the ear. The result was a small weeper. I think maybe the Greencult is a little too much razor for this blade (I like milder razors).

Overall, today's result was a BBS- with no nicks, or post-shave irritation, but one weeper.

I had a pretty good shave this morning. I still haven’t committed to going another week with this blade but I will decide overnight. No blood, irritation and not a great amount of sting when I used my Alum Block. The blade is definitely not as sharp as seven shaves ago when I started this week but I will dwell on the thought of going another week tonight.

Pre: Shower, Warm water rinse
Blade: Viking Sword
Razor: Merkur 38C
Brush: RV/Shavemac Finest
Soap: Dr. Jon's Krampus
Post: Lukewarm rinse, Thayer's Cranberry & Orange Toner WH, Nivea Men Sensitive PSB

Switching the VS from the Greencult to a Merkur 38c worked wonders for smoothing things out. The Greencult wass a wee bit too much razor for this blade (I like milder razors).

Overall, today's result was a BBS- with no nicks, weepers, or post-shave irritation

Vikings at the Gate: Week ten, blade nine, Vikings Sword Super Stainless.

I opted to try another week with my last Vikings Sword Super Stainless blade. No drama with the the shave this morning, it’s definitely no where near as sharp as last week but I didn’t draw any blood, there was no irritation and a little sting when I used my Alum Block. I could feel a little more stubble in the shower after my shave so this week could be interesting.

It's been a while for this PIF for me. I'm still in, but I was out sick for some time. I had used the Viking's Sword in the Star razor again this AM. Hot shower, lathered Palmolive. It's been a couple weeks since I used one of the PIF blades. The shave was ok, maybe a little harsh. One edge feels much different than the other. The end results were fine, but I did have one nick at the back of my jaw.

The VS blade I really liked in other razors has been a little disappointing in the Star. Also, the Star is not one that I regularly use.
Recently I picked up a stupid cheap DE at Lidl which has given me some great shaves. I believe I will swap a new PIF blade into that one and give it a go.

Yeah, if that Star isn't working then move on. Shaving should be fun :)

I'd love to see that Lidl razor if you get a chance.

I was on autopilot during today's shave, thinking about all the prep work needed for tomorrow's Christmas Eve party. Luckily, the VS/38c combo was up to the task of saving me from my lack of attention. A smooth, comfortable shave ensued.

Overall, today's result was a DFS+ with no nicks, weepers, or post-shave irritation

Vikings at the Gate: Week ten, blade nine, Vikings Sword Super Stainless.

Tuesday morning shave was fine. I could still feel a little stubble in the shower after my shave but there was no blood, no irritation and minimal sting when I used my Alum Block. I have five shaves to go so let’s see how this pans out.

Vikings at the Gate: Week ten, blade nine, Vikings Sword Super Stainless.

My Christmas morning shave was okay. No blood, no irritation and just a small amount of increase in sting when I used my Alum Block. I must say though the blade is definitely struggling ATG. I have four shaves to go so I am sure that I will get there but it will be interesting to see how it does after fourteen shaves.

Reasonable shave this morning. The blade is struggling. I had no real irritation, no blood but an increase in sting when I used my Alum Block. Also in the shower after my shave I can still feel a fair amount of stubble that I didn’t feel during the first weeks use of this blade. I am committed to the next three shaves, as long as I can get through without blood I will be happy.

Blade: Viking Sword
Razor: Merkur 38C
Brush: Semogue 830
Soap: Stirling Frankincense & Myrrh

Last shave of the year with Christmas soaps. Quite pleasant. a smooth drama free shave. That makes 19 on this blade.

Overall, today's result was a DFS+ with no nicks, weepers, or post-shave irritation.
