CF Lime....

I got a tub of CF Lime for christmas after hearing all the good comments on it...Well after having used it for 5-6 times all I can say is BLAH. For $40 (cdn) I was expecting it to blow me away. I much prefer my cheaper Proraso White or Tabac. I've tried every combination possible...less water..more water..but I still get the same poor results.

Sorry to hear Castle Forbes Lime didn't work for you.
This cream is one of my top shelf shaving creams and I love it.
It is slick, creamy, thick, rich and moisturising.
The way it smells is outstanding and, unquestionably, it is for me the very best Lime cream available anywhere.
Every time I use CF Lime I get superb shaves.
Enough said.

thanks marco. For some reason I don't find it cushioning, and thick at all. I've tried every combination possible and I just can't seem to find the right spot.

I adore my CF limes, so very slick and goes a long way too. The smell is wonderful and it give me a great shave every time. I consider it to be my top cream.

Agree. It is amazing how little is needed, and the smell is great.

If you don't care for CF Lime, you can BST it and get quite a bit for it. Life is too short to waste on shaving cream that doesn't work for you.

I think I will try a few more times and if I can't get it to work I will put it up for sale or trade

Try face lathering with it instead of trying to mix it in a bowl. Works great that way, I use CF regularly and find it a top notch cream. It's so dense that it's almost like a soap anyway. Just load a damp brush directly onto the cream and start lathering on your face. Dip your brush into a little water if you need to add more water. In seconds you should have plenty of lather for all the passes you could want. It really is a great cream but it can be a little more difficult to lather until you understand how it works. Good luck with it.

+1 on face lathering the Castle Forbes. I treat it like a soap and for me it has no equal as far as creams go.

How are you lathering it? Do you use a bowl, are you face lathering by putting a bit of cream in the brush, or do you use the cream like a soap? Personally, I find the soap method works best with the CF creams, due to their high density. Even at that, I find that a brand new tub really has to be worked in; the more times you use it, the more it will soften up, and be easier to lather. Eventually, you'll get great results without even thinking about it. CF is kind of like a high-end sports car - very finnicky, and only rewarding to those who have the patience and desire to deal with it.

Thanks guys! I currently use a bowl. I will try face lathering next time for sure. It is quite a different texture than other creams for sure.

I will keep you guys posted!

Out of curiosity, what's your water like, hard or soft?

Perhaps that may have something to do with not getting good results?

If face lathering doesn't work, I have a foolproof method for you; add one squirt of KMF Key Limes into the bowl. This combination produces some of the best lather I've ever used.

Yes, but aren't you then diluting the awesomely awesome awesomeness that is Castle Forbe cream in its purity?

I generate my lather in a bowl, and I've had no trouble getting great lather out of CF (lime and lavender). It is a bit of a different beast from other creams when it comes to generating lather, due to the thick consistency. Most folks load their brushes right in the tub, as if they were working with a soft soap. If you are adverse to that, you can take a dollop out of the tub with a plastic knife and put it in the bottom of your lathering bowl under a small amount of hot water so that it will break down faster when you take your brush to it.

I would take some time out in the evening, or on a morning when you have some time to experiment with it, so that you can work with it some without having a schedule pressuring you into using lather you aren't yet comfortable with. CF can be hard to work with at first, but once you get it figured out.... :001_wub:

Good luck, sir!

Maybe a little, but I found that when I bowl lathered CF Lime I got a nice looking lather but that the razor wouldn't glide very well; it almost seemed like it was sticky rather than slick (that's an exaggeration but you get the idea). Very protective, though. But if I added just a little bit of KMF, it became slick AND protective, and I didn't lose much of the awesomeness.

It just worked for me.

Just wanted to second this... If you don't warm it up/break it down, you may not really be effectively loading your brush with the amount of soap you think you are. Until I learned to smear it in the bottom of the bowl and float the bowl in hot water for a few seconds, I was getting weak lather. But when everything came together - Wow! - this stuff lathers like no other.

P.S. CF Limes is the single most addicting and delicious scent in my arsenal of many creams. I can sit and sniff the tub like it's a fine wine.

I will probably use it tomorrow morning. It's been pretty cold here so I have to use my old trusty Proraso white.
