I was roaming around Tokyo today and I happened to see a Comme des Garcons boutique. I've been thinking about getting a bottle of Avignon, and this was just the chance. Unfortunately they didn't have it--they said that each of their boutiques carries different ranges.
Later in the day, I stopped in another big department store in another part of Tokyo. As I was getting ready to leave, I remembered that there was a CdG boutique there too. I took a chance and stopped in, and they had it. Even better, when I showed my passport, I got a 5% discount!
I tried it out via the tester, but I don't think that I'm going to open the one I bought until I get home. My first impression was a staggering blast of frankincense and myrrh. If any of you served time in the trenches as a Catholic altar boy, you will recognize this immediately. It was like I was twelve years old again, holding the boat while Msgr O'Malley shoveled incense into the censer. I like it much more than C&S's take on the same.
After a while, it dries down to something decidedly less liturgical. Warm and spicy, not unlike the fading drydown of Knize Ten. I'm looking forward to wearing this when the weather gets cooler.
On an unrelated note, I was browsing through the men's fragrance section at the Mitsukoshi Department Store in Ginza, Tokyo and was surprised to see that Art of Shaving Sandalwood cologne is more expensive in Japan than Tam Dao!
