Cavendish Tobaccos

Is it me or is it the type of tobacc that makes the cavendish blends taste like ash to me? After about ten min. of smoking it I get this ashy taste am I smoking it to fast and hot?

Yes you are. Cavendish tends to be a quite mild, more aromatic type of tobacco that requires a bit more gentle handling than say a burley that's more nutty in flavor profile. Ideally you want to smoke as slowly and as cool as possible, just about that point where you think the pipe is gonna go out on you. I quite like cavendish but if you push it too far it will bite back at you. Just slow down, take small sips off the pipe instead of big draws.

One trick in general, if you can't hold your lit pipe against your cheek without it burning or being uncomfortable you're smoking to hot and fast.

I just got a cavendish, Mac baren H/C , i am not that fond of it at all, it is ashy- but i guess there are just different blends i like Borkum riff and it is a mixture of virginia and cavendish

Couldn't agree with you more. Your advice is the same I recieved when I started some 10 years ago. I have started several friends and family members this past year on pipe smoking. They have all received a corn cob pipe to learn on, as well as a nice estate pipe once their feet are wet. I have given all of them some cavendish and for the most part they have all greatly enjoyed it. With cavendish, in my book, slow and steady wins the race.
