Caswell-Massey Newport

I was just in the Caswell-Massey store in Charlotte, NC picking up a bottle of Musgo AS, and did my usual "sniff 'n' spray" of their C-M colognes and came across the Newport scent. It was intriguing, so I got a small sample to try at home.

This cologne really reminds me of something that I have smelled, and perhaps even worn recently - perhaps some other cologne (Bowling Green maybe, but only during the drydown, not the initial citrus blast...), but I just can't put my finger on it. I'm here in Charlotte for the day and won't get home until late, so I can't do a side-by-side till then. I thought perhaps one of the more educated noses out there might put me at ease; otherwise, I'm going to go on sniffing all day long until I can figure it out. HELP!

What say you, gents? Can any of you set my mind at ease, or am I just having "scent-ja vu"?

Well, after going onto Basenotes I figured it out: both C-M Newport and Bowling Green by Geoffrey Beene share many of the same notes.

Specifically, the notes for Newport are listed as:
Fragrance Notes: Bergamot, Mandarin, Lemon, Green Notes, Lavandin, Geranium, Muguet, Rose, Amber, Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Vanilla, Musk (from the CM website).

The Basenotes site lists Bowling Green's notes as:
Top Notes
Bergamot, Lemon, Basil, Juniper.

Middle Notes
Lavender, Cardamom, Pine, Jasmin, Cinnamon, Artemisia .

Base Notes
Patchouli, Moss, Cedar, Amber, Sandal, Fir

Nice to know that my nose isn't totally off, and nice too to know that, if you like Newport, there's a very similar scent available for next to nothing in Bowling Green.
