Cartridge curiosity

Curiosity got the better of me!

I thought I’d try just one more shave with the Gillette Fusion power.
I had (and still have) no intention of returning to the cartridge system at all, it was just one of those spur of the moment thoughts that we all have and I suppose mostly we sensibly ignore, but I decided to go with it…

I didn’t go the whole way and use the canned gloop too, there are limits you know  so I prepared as I would for a DE shave and face lathered with TOBS sandalwood using a Simpson special brush. And commenced a three pass shave WTG, XTG, ATG. The process felt rather odd. It tugged and dragged a little and the razor itself felt far too big in my hand. I started with short strokes but it seems almost designed to force you into longer ones. It couldn’t be called uncomfortable; it was almost a mechanical process. In short there was no enjoyment or finesse in this shave at all.

The results were surprisingly good, BBS on my cheeks but not as good around my chin or neck.

I return to DE tomorrow!

Cheers

Glad to see you're sticking to the DE. I tried the cart once after switching over just because I was in a hurry. Now I just wake up a little earlier or shave the night before lol

I can get a great shave from a Gilette Fusion, using the right software. But, I can get smoother and closer with a DE given 5 minutes longer in the process, and its a lot cheaper and more environmentally friendly.

I agree. The end result was acceptable but I too can get better with DE. However, I think the smoothness and the general comfort of the shave were the main issues that would preclude me from returning to cartridges. Time isn't an issue for me now as I'm retired, but there was certainly no enjoyment in this one. It was worth trying if only to confirm that DE is cheaper, more environmentally friendly and tremendously more enjoyable.

+1

other than the cheaper part lol The ADs hit me like a tons of bricks.

^^^ LOL

So true!
But you can't take it with you... if you could there'd be nothing left for us by now! :biggrin1:

The tugging/pulling is the main reason I switched to DE shaving. It was very uncomfortable for me.

i can get a super fast, irritation free shave from my fusion, and as long as i change the cart every 10 days or so, tugging is never an issue. Still, it's never anywhere near as close as with my DE and i think with continued practice, i'll be able to eliminate my neck irritation all together.

Nothing odd about that, many of us have tried the same experiment.
It's easy to switch from a DE to a cart temporarily, but less easy to switch the other way without a period of adjustment.

I love that photo Ray .... just beautiful.

I have a Fusion Pro Glide Power that I love and use most days.

Never got on too well with a DE and I have sold them all except my Gillette New

Recently purchased a 1943 Schick injector which is just beautiful.

Used a GEM 1912 for a while and that's a dammed fine razor.

I will never return to a cart, no question. But I was very tempted today to buy gillette gel in a tube (no can) and some Adidas AS splash at Wally's. However, I refrained and bought myself a Brita Water jug instead. I don't think I will get to many close shaves with it, but at least I will be able to stay hydrated.
