Carbon CX's anyone own and care to comment

Stumbled on this Razor it is not spoken about much, see the are available with Original & Mild Bottom PLATE.

Anyone own currently, or in past and care to comment on this Razor.

I have a CX and what must be in the original form. Too hot for me to use every day but great for a BBS on the second or third day.

I have the Cx-316L / web version with all of the plates and both handles (R2 & R3) - top quality razor in both finish and build. It's really nicely weighted, even with the Carbon Fibre R3 handle and it is fairly aggressive as well.

I own one. Standard version and while it does have a lot of blade feel, I think it works fine as a daily, even for someone like me with fairly sensitive skin. Now...I have been at this for a decade, so I think my prep and technique are pretty good (BBS with 2 passes consistently). I would not recommend this razor to a beginner.

P.S. I think finding the right blade really matters. The GSBs are the best blade in this one for me, and it isn't even close. If you use a super sharp blade (i.e. BIC, Feather, Personna) you could really hurt yourself.

I absolutely love the Carbon Cx series. I own three (Cx-Ti, Cx-904L, and Cx-Graphite). Mine are all in the .71 (mild) configuration. I find them to shave very much like Flat Bottom Techs. I believe the original plate is comparable to the Pre War Tech. There are two higher aggression options available.

I am as impressed with Sean and his company as much as I am with the razors. They aren’t cheap, certainly, but the quality and design are pure perfection. I don’t think the prices are out of line with the competition (Ti is very close to Blackland, stainless is more; Carbon uses 316L where Blackland uses 303) but the shave is better for me.

I like them so well that you can look at BST for all of the other razors I am selling. It seems like I grab a Cx far more often than any other razor I own.

I agree with this. The original plate has a lot of blade feel, it's probably the loudest razor I've ever used, which isn't a bad thing. But it's aggressive enough for me that I don't use it often anymore.
Had several conversations with Sean before I bought my first one. I Teledyne on the .71 plate and am very glad I did. He calls it mild, but it is mid to mid-high in my estimation. I can and do use it daily, but, it does require attention. The Ti version is much more user-friendly.

Ive mentioned before that these razors don’t get much love here. No clue why. I’m not on any other forums, but, I’ve been told they are more popular elsewhere.

I even started a Club for Carbon razors (Carbon Cadre), but, there was virtually zero response.

A little story: I ordered a razor as a gift for my son. The USPS, in their infinite wisdom, shipped it to Puerto Rico instead of Pennsylvania. I was in a time crunch because I was hand delivering the razor and had to travel. Sean send me tracking updates every day and when time was getting short, he offered to ship me another razor overnight at no charge, trusting me to return first one when it came. THAT is good service (are you listening, Karve?).

Interesting story about Customer Service, and your right not much chatter about CARBON.

I love my Carbon 316L as well, and I can consider myself very fortunate for the following reason. I was in the process of putting an order in for the razor, when I noticed that there had been a pass around for a complete razor (316L with all base plates and both handles), on a well known UK shaving forum. At the end of the pass around, Sean had said that the razor could be sold via raffle with the proceeds going to Charity. To cut along story short, I bought 4 raffle tickets and the winning number that was drawn - was one of the four that I had purchased and so now I'm an owner of the the aforementioned razor. The build quality on the razor is absolutely top draw and so is the shave as well.

I hate autocorrect. How any times in my life have I typed “Teledyne”? Enough, apparently, that it is used to replace “settled.”

This is the one razor that has eluded me. I find them selling quickly on the used market and on the web site I've seen the 316L, brass and copper are not available. I added my email to notify when they are back in stock. It has to be at least 6 months ago by now. Is he a smallish shop like James from Wolfman? Do they still make the brass and copper? I'd prefer the non web plate as I prefer the extra weight and the web plate to me just seems like a weight reducing method.

One of the ''few'' modern razors that I haven't tried. I gave up a while ago, because I couldn't understand how the plates work, because they have different blade gaps and exposures and the community is very diverse in that regard. If their plates were like leve 1, level 2 and level 3 or gap 1.00, 1.20 and 1.40 that would have been much helpful. Maybe one day I will take the risk and try them out, who knows?

The CX ++ with webbed plate is one of the iconic designs in DE razor history.
And it shaves very well...slightly higher gap but lower blade exposure.
Delivers smooth and great shaves.

Lower blade exposure than the original CX that is.
