Car Air Freshener

Anyone have a suggestion for a car air freshener? I hate the overpowering flower smells of most popular air fresheners. Especially at the beginning, when they are so strong you can taste them. Anyone use anything that's somewhat subtle, clean smelling, and long lasting? Thanks.

Back in the day i use to buy an extra bottle of my favorite cologne and use a syringe and then inject it into the seats.

Now a days i buy those clip on air fresheners. Just get a subtle scent.

They looks like that, but the ones i buy (not sure if O'reillys or Auto zone) they don't have the circle in the front, they are just clips.

Drakkar?

Crushed up whole bean hazelnut coffee beans... Threw them in some panty hose and tied a knot in the hose... Every couple day I shake it up a bit... Works very well and I love coffee

Good thread... didn't think of asking myself, but it's been something that's a lot harder than it should be.

I've now tried about 5 types in my car and not one lasts longer than a week at the most... right now I have 2 that are liquid filled, one that's been there for almost a year and the liquid is still there but doesn't smell much if at all, so I'm gathering that the permeating material clogged out or something.

I went to the dollar store, got a bottle of "Our version of Water" (the nicest one they had) and spray it around (floors/rubber mats) so not to possibly stain the leather or carpet), and also spray-soak a paper tissue once in a while and leave that in the door's map pocket.

I'd almost be tempted to try that syringe thing if I could find a spot that it could be done without damaging the leather (under the seat probably... will have to check.

To clarify, i never did this on leather seats.

I got a bottle of Chemical Guys Leather scent. Unlike most, it's not expected to last for months. You shoot a spray or two under the seat once a week or so. It stays fairly subtle.

They have a bunch of different scents -- including "Stripper Scent", which quite frankly, I'm a little afraid to imagine what it smells like..... (the link above is fine, but be careful clicking through to the stripper scent page, there's a borderline NSFW image)

I find that I get the best results by purchasing whatever car air freshner and then just putting it into the centre console. That way, while I am in the car, the centre console is closed, but when I get out I can leave it open. This helps to both improve the car smell without being overpowering and to deter would-be-thieves by showing them there is nothing of value in the centre console - unless they really like the smell of bubblegum or pine trees:001_tt2:
