What's new

Captains Choice

So being relatively new to wet shaving within the last 7 months I've been somewhat hesitant to use an AS splash. I have sensitive skin and was in fear of some of these drying out my skin. My past experience with splashes was the typical drug store brands that just weren't my cup of tea. After reading up on some threads here and conducting further research I decided to pull the trigger on some Captains Choice Lime and Bay Rum. I've used both so far, and wow! Although I don't have anything to compare too, the fragrances are very nice and SWMBO enjoys them as well, which is all the more reason to keep these in my rotation. I have to say, my fear of drying out my skin has been expelled. These products seems to do just the opposite, my face feels quite moisturized throughout the day. I do wish the scent would last a bit longer, seems by lunch time it's all but gone. Great product, belongs in any wet shavers den.

Why would someone with a name Capt Red Beard hold out trying another Captain's product? See what you've been missing. I really don't finish off any shave without at least one of Captain's products. Glad you like, it's a wonderful product.

I bought the Lime and Cat o Nine Tail at the same time. Well the lime got to me a couple days prior. I absolutely loved it. Well once I tried the Cat o Nine Tails I realized quickly that the limes will be reserved for whenever I run out of the Cat o Nine Tails.

Cat o' Nine Tails is, for me, the best aftershave I've ever used, bar none. There are others I like, of course, but whenever I've been away from the Cat for a while and splash it on again, I ask myself, "Self, why do you bother with anything else when this stuff just smells so gosh darn good?"

So, my Sunday shave consisted of some Proraso green with a feather blade on day #4. I performed a 3 pass WTG, ATG, and XTG. I put my money maker through the gauntlet. Side note, don't try to stretch your feathers and apply Cat 0' 9. Holy Sh#%. What a fantastic burn!!! And fragrance endures throughout the morning. When my CC Bay Rum and Lime run out this will be my next purchase. Cheers!

Sounds like this is going to be my next purchase also!

My Den is back the way it should be. All the Captain's products back in action.

For me the Lime fades fast. It's glorious otherwise. The others both last a pretty good while. I prefer the scent of the classic. The burn on Co9T neither bothers nor excites me. I like it plenty, but less than the original. This summer I can't seem to get enough cold stuff.... so Krampert's Frostbite has interrupted my favorite bay rums for the moment. But Captain's is unsurpassed for a daily splash.

I definitely agree about the lime. It smells amazing but it does not last very long at all (no more than an hour). I love the Cat though!!!

I love the original Bay Rum. I just used it about 10 minutes ago, and my face feels fantastic!

I second very slightly dampening your face later in the day, it "wakes up" the scent a little!

Now see, I love the Lime for just that reason - when I choose to wear cologne I don't want it to clash or have me smelling like a perfumery. LOL I guess I'm one of the few who use an aftershave for just that - more for the skin care, less for the fragrance. However it goes, it's clear we all love the stuff! :biggrin1:

This seems like an appropriate place to address a question to the CC experts. I am a bay rum junky, hardly met a BR I don't like. I tend to prefer less cloves so the Pinaud Virgin Island Bay Rum (VIBR) is down on my list. I couldn't wait to get some Captain's Choice and finally got a sample. The qualities of CC is far and above the best of any I have tried. But there is a but.... I find the scent very weak. Nice but weak. After reading about the Co9T I'm wondering how that may compare. Are there other differences between CC and Co9T other than alcohol content? Any scent difference?
