captain's choice cat o' nine tails vs bay rum

i bought a bottle of cat o'nine tails. smells nice enough but i'm not sure i like the way it feels. while i like alcohol in my AS, i though this would be more of a warming than a burning.
anyone know how it compares to CC bay rum?

I bought both in BST and they're the bottles with the older labels. I can't tell the difference between the Co9T & CCBR. I know the Co9T is supposed to have a "burn" but I just don't feel it. Maybe since mine is fairly old it's "lost that lovin' feelin'". :D

I just got a sample of the 9tails. All I can say is Wow...IT BURNS. I like a warming effect sometimes but this was overkill for me. I tried it a couple different times to see if it was just maybe the result of an over-ambitious shave etc. But it got me every time. The bay run feels nice and warm without that effect on my face, but I wasnt so pleased with the scent(Truth be told im not a bay rum lover).

If I have a super close shave, Captains Bay Rum has a nice gentle burn to it. Not uncomfortable, but its there. I'm not talking about a rough shave, thats a STING, but a close shave. After about 2 minutes it just leaves my face feeling really nice.

Cat O'9 tails is likely not for me. I don't crave that kinda burn. But I would try it once ;)

You guys over there are real lucky. Here in Blighty you cant get either of the brands mentioned here. As such I've just ordered a bottle of Clubmans Bay Rum based on a review here. So how does that compare to the other two named brands?

Clubman VIBR is much more spicy than 9'tails. More "christmas cookie spice." Cinnamon and clove dominate. 9'tails is more dark, deep but still has the signature bay run clove-spice to it. More subdued and sophisticated than VIBR. My favorite Bay Rum out of the large inventory I have. I've not tried enough of Captains standard Bay Rum to comment.

Both VIBR and 9'tails after a very close (harsh) shave will bring tears to your eyes. Different burn effect but both will hammer you hard. My face went numb with VIBR once after a dreadful Derby shave. Alcohol hits real hard with VIBR. 9'tails useses Witch Hazel which helps subdue things a bit. I mix my VIBR occasionally with Witch Hazel (and often other Bay Rums) which helps mellow it out.

Performance wise they both are outstanding. 9'tails being the most healing AS I've used. Has glycerine in it I think which helps with moisturizing. VIBR also produces excellent results. I can never manage to read what the ingredients listed on the back of the VIBR label though. The best low cost AS avaialble for me. Less than $6 a bottle at multiple drugstores in walking distance from me.

I use Co9, Bay Rum and the Lime; the Co9 and the Bay Rum are quite similar to one another in scent and feel, but the Co9 has more botanicals and a bit more zip. There isn't that big of a difference otherwise.

Thanks BayRhum for that heads up on whats comming. A complete change to what I've normally used (Benjamins).

I have co9t and I am loving it, it has a very warm burn to it. Perfect for winter, no one else likes the scent but meh I love it and is what matters. Have to say that the burn is addicting, and this stuff is so moisturizing...I dont have to put on any thing else...never had that with an as before.

Well the Clubmans turned up this afternoon. I dadbed a little on my the back of my and hand let it burn off then let the wife smell it...."ergh what a pong,". she said. Hmmm thought I. Well I normally use Bayrum after work when I get home to tone the skin after washing up, so what the heck. Anyhow I went to the den freshend the face and splashed some on. A nice warm glow and a real good spicey scent, giner, nutmeg and Chritmas all in one. I walk past the study and the wife shouts " hey sexy what ya wearing? you smell great,". The scent seems to change when over a larger area, less concentrated and more ....well Bayrum. SWMBO says it's a fresh manly kinda scent. A keeper for sure.

I have the Captain's Choice Bay Rum, but I haven't had the chance to try the CO9T yet. I love CC. But my go-to AS is Clubman VIBR. I love the stuff and so does my wife.. I buy it 4 or 6 bottles at a time from the mail order. I love the burn from the Clubman. And for that I think I would love the CO9T as well.

The only problem I've found is the Clubman bottle is real cheap plastic construction. So when I get another bottle comming up empty (or I may trawl the bay) I'll decant it and peal the label, other wise I love it.
