That's what they call "a good innings". Rest in peace, sir!

Too bad. He was big news in Canada as well. At least he had a very long life, did a lot of good and got to meet the queen.

RIP Sir Tom Moore. He made huge headlines out here in Australia as well. A true gentleman.

By jingo, ol' chap, well done!
You helped save us from Gerry...

You Sir, will never walk alone!

An amazing Briton!
A credit to Queen and country and an incredible inspiration to all.
We owe him a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid.

His life story was book-ended with heroism.

As Lieutenant Thomas Moore he served in the British Army in the India and Burma campaigns with the Royal Armoured Corps during World War II. He remained in service as an instructor in armoured warfare shortly after the war.

After many decades in private life, Captain Tom's sterling conscience heeded an inner call to duty, and at age 99 he started his garden walks in aid of NHS charities with the modest goal of raising £1000 by his 100th birthday.

Press coverage ensued and donations started pouring in. By the time he completed his goal of 100 laps on April 16, 202, he had raised an incredible £12-millions for NHS charities.
Soldiers of First Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment, provided a "Guard of Honour" for his final laps as an emotional country cheered him on.

By the close of the fundraiser on his 100th birthday, he had raised £32,794,701 for charities supporting the NHS!
Not only did over 1.5-million people donate, but others were inspired to join the campaign with challenges of their own: a girl learning to walk again after a stroke; a non-verbal boy with autism embarking on a "walk" for the NHS; a woman completing a "marathon" by walking laps at her home at the age of 104!

He then contributed spoken words to a charity single of "You'll Never Walk Alone" with Michael Ball, which shot straight to the top of the charts, making him the oldest person to have a number one single in the UK singles chart, and he was number one on his 100th birthday, to boot!

Leading up to his 100th birthday, he received over 150,000 cards and the Royal Mail had to open two dedicated sorting facilities to handle the volume. Volunteers were recruited to open and display the cards at a local school.
On his 100th birthday, he received personal greetings from the Queen, the Prime Minister, Prince Charles and Harry Kane, was given two RAF fly-pasts, and was made an Honorary Colonel of the British Army Foundation College.

In July he was knighted by the Queen at Windsor Castle in Her Majesty's first official engagement in person since the lock-down in March. He was the only person knighted that day and the sole purpose of the investiture. He then became known as Captain Sir Thomas Moore, under Ministry of Defence protocol.

The accolades, awards, and honours that followed are simply too numerous to list, honorary degrees and appointments, tributes, TV specials and documentaries, medals, Captain of English Football's Lionhearts Squad, Guinness World Records holder, namesake buses, trains, mascot-animals, paintings, murals, books, and a proposed bio-pic.

Remarkably, in little more than a year, Capt. Tom had risen from obscurity to become England's national treasure.

Tragically, Capt. Sir Tom recently contracted pneumonia, tested positive for Covid-19 and succumbed within just a few days, leaving his beloved and grieving country on February 2nd, 2021.

You, Sir, were truly the best of us.
Hear, hear!
May you rest in peace and tranquillity forever!
