Do you prefer your beer in cans or bottles, assuming there is a choice available? I used to like bottles, but since I like my beer ice cold, I have moved to cans almost exclusively. I think cans cool faster and get colder than bottles, although I have no scientific proof of that fact.

Some beers I like are only available in bottles, that i've seen anyway. such as Sam Adams, Dogfish Head. But if i'm going cheap like Miller, or Coors then give me cans. Goes down smoother IMO, and I can use my Thermos can cooler, which i've been using for 10+ years.

I think my beer taste is maturing as i'm starting to like more beers that are better suited for a glass such as Dogfish Head 90min IPA and Stella.

There is almost nothing I would choose to drink that is available in cans. Also, I don't like my beer ice cold. The colder the beer, the less you appreciate the flavor. Of course, that works in your favor if you're drinking cheap beer. Personally, I would rather be sober than drink that kind of beer.

+1... What he said.

I prefer bottles. I think they taste much better.

As for the coldness factor. Metal is a conductor and glass an insulator. So the can will definitely get colder quicker, but will also warm quicker. If you keep the bottle in the fridge longer it will get just as cold as the canned stuff, but will stay colder longer. A bottle or can cozy can help with that too.

I like mine ice cold too.

I prefer bottles but one of my neighbors insists the beer gets colder in cans. I told him I pour the bottle in a nice cold glass and that's how I enjoy my beer. He insists the only was to drink beer is from a can.

I prefer bottles, I always get a metallic taste anytime I drink from a can. I have a friend that likes to tell people "yeah I drink @@@@, you get it cold enough it tastes like water." I gave up trying to tell him if I want a taste of water I will get a glass of tap water, but I want to taste something that taste like beer not water.

I went with cans. I think there may also be an age and/or socioeconomic factor involved with this. I enjoy bottles but my roots are cans...

Ah yes. When I was in my early 20s, and the primary factor was the buzz-per-buck ratio, cans came out on top.

Now I prefer something that tastes better.

I am at the old enough to know better but still to young to care stage myself! I drink my xx in a bottle but most others I am fine with in a can or bottle. For the most part I don't drink a lot of beer anymore...

An aluminum can cools faster than a glass bottle, but glass stays cold longer than aluminum, if for nothing else but the thickness of the material.
Glass is a good insulator, while aluminum is a very effective conductor of heat.
The bottle will take longer to cool down than the can, but the can will heat up much faster than the bottle.

I'm an avid backpacker/camper and cans are much lighter. When camping, I pour my beer into a Klean Kanteen steel pint glass. If you're drinking it properly and pouring into a glass/cup it shouldn't matter either way. There are plenty of wonderful craft breweries that distribute in cans too.

Did you ask if he actually owns any glasses? Might be a deciding factor for him

+1 to this. I enjoy Southern Star Bombshell Blonde Ale, not sure it comes in anything besides a can. Tastes way better than many beers I've had in bottles.
