Canadian Kids Shows

Does anyone remember You Can't Do That On Television? Even at 7-years-old, I thought those people were the biggest group of weirdos I had ever seen in my young life. It's almost two decades later and my assessment still remains true. I remember watching it on Sunday afternoons and wondering why there was nothing better on TV. That's when the NBA on NBC became my friend.

On the other hand, Sharon, Lois, and Bram's Elephant Show was quality. Children programming at its finest. Three adults and a big elephant sharing a life together is very plausible. I still remember this episode.

Oh man that brings me back! I didn't know you got so many Canadian kids shows in the US. It seems like a lot of the popular kids shows where Canadian actually...

For those who remember Fred Penner was great too. Sometimes it seems like kids these days just don't have as good shows as we did. Although that show Arthur, now THAT I could watch on my own.

To this day this theme song still brings a tear to my eye...

I think I remember this. Wasn't this shown on PBS during the 80's?

My favorite was "The Friendly Giant" with Bob Homme.

I remember it in b&w on CKLW television from Windsor, Ontario. At the time, I lived just across the river in Detroit.

I can still hear "Early One Morning" being played on Mr. Homme's recorder. In fact, that was the first tune I ever learned to play on a Clarke English pennywhistle.

Ah, memories!

Regards,

David

gone down south

My mornings were Friendly Giant followed by Mr. Dressup followed by Sesame Street followed by the Flintstones. I watched way too much TV as a kid

Yes, I remember You can't do that on television! ...I loved that show. I'm willing to bet that 99.9% of today's Nickelodeon viewers have absolutely no idea where the trademark green slime came from.

I definitely remember Sharon Lois and Bram as well as Fred Penner as well as the Polka Dot Door. Today's special seems oddly familiar too. Although we moved when I was six and on top of that my mom was fairly anti-tv
