Canada

Seems like some of the coolest people I meet consistently hail from Canada. Plus it's beautiful. I'd move there, but the wife considers Virginia too cold (no, really, she does) and won't let me.

That is all.

Well, you can always bring her for a visit in the summer!

Yes, come to Thunder Bay. B.C. is ok if you like to hear talk about Salmon all the time.
Thunder Bay has Persians (a cinnamon bun).

Salmon or Persians? C'mon, make the right choice!

(don't visit Thunder Bay in the spring, fall or winter. Summer only.)

When I lived in MI. we would go to Windsor, the people were friendly hard working and stable. Canada is a very nice place to live.

on various traveling teams, I remembered I always enjoyed playing hockey in Windsor,
Kitchener, Hamilton and Torontoto to name a few cities.

Or when I was stationed at Fort Drum, NY playing hockey in nearby cities such as
Gananoque and Kingston or seeing Blessed John Paul II during the 17th World Youth Day 2002 in Toronto or the Mrs. and my vacation in Quebec years ago, I’ve always found Canadians to be a hard working, friendly, out-going and gracious people (and tend to say “eh?” alot...which is way cool).

West-coasters tend to suffer from a strange inferiority complex. When I lived in Vancouver, they never got tired of telling me how superior it was to Toronto. And how laid back they were. No really. REALLY. THEY REALLY ARE MORE LAID BACK, MAN! SERIOUSLY!

I've never seen a city try so hard to be laid back.

Friendly cross-country rivalries aside, there are great places all across Canada, both in summer and winter, where you'll find nice people, beautiful scenery and interesting things to do.

Actually, the weather isn't that much colder in the Southwestern regions of the country (Vancouver / Lower Mainland / Vancouver Island)...according to the magical Google, the lows in Virginia in January are just below freezing, with your summer highs in the high eighties; while in Vancouver our winter low (avg.) is around 27f, with our summer highs hitting the same mark (high 80's/low 90's). We usually get a few days each year where the temps nosedive into the 10-15f range and a couple in the 100+ range, but they are few and far between.

Love it! Hopefully, I'll remember (and by remember, I of course really mean stay sober enough) not to break into this while spending time with my family in Hamilton over the holidays this year.

Canadians like to poke fun at other Canadians who are from different parts of the country. It's all in good fun.

... so glad I don't live anywhere near Vancouver ...

The Banff/Jasper corridor is spectacular. (IMHO the best time to visit is in the spring.)

Yes exactly. I knew you would catch that. It seems to come up often between glorious Thunder Bay and the rest of the country. I didn't take into account that others might not see the joke. Oooops. I should have put in an emoticon. Next time for sure.

You don't? I'll have to scratch Vancouver jokes off my list now :glare:

I travelled up the Jasper highway (I don't know what it's actually called) and it was easily one of the nicest drives i've had.
I even got to stand on a glacier (eh, not so fun, but it was part of the trip).

Still, good old Northwestern Ontario has it's charms too.

Winnipeg is a great city on the western prairies. It can be cold in the winter, but it can be hot in the summer. Fall is beautiful.
It's 90 minutes away from the Canadian Shield and in the province of Manitoba, which Winnipeg is the capital...there are more than 100,000 lakes. It's an angler and hunter's dream. It's 500 miles north of Minneapolis.

Can be cold in Winter? Come on man don't sugar coat it. I remember one brutal winter on the prairies where the weather forecast was the exact same all of January and February...it went like this....Highs tomorrow 20 and lows 35. They don't even mention that those are negative numbers (in Celsius) and below zero. Everyone listening already knew that.
Let me tell you , several months of minus 35 to minus 40 weather will make you stir crazy

I like the fact that Canadians have cute little monkeys running around their stores dressed in winter coats. I told my wife I wanted a Macaque for Christmas, and she told me no way. She never lets me have anything I want.

Lot of people want to move to Canada, the problem is its not as simple as people make it sound. You can visit up to 6 months (how they enforce that I never know)... but if you want to be a permanent resident and eventually obtain a Canadian citizenship ('O Canada)... then that could take 2-3 years I hear. I'm toying around the idea of moving to Montreal because I know one person from there and he makes it sound great. Cold winters (-40 F) but honestly 40 isn't that bad long as it's not windy and dress properly... and mild/warm summers. So to me this sounds similar to the weather I experience here in Germany at the moment.

Maybe one day....

The reason I'm toying around the idea is because I really don't want to go back to hometown I lived in for over 24 years prior to joining military... with the current operations tempo the military is making budget cuts and instituting policies designed to "trim" the force. I might be out of the military come 2014 (I was able to extend 1 year due to a Exception to Policy). Anyone want to hire me? :)
