Can you guy's help me identify this straight???

Hi guys, First off I want to say I have been a lurker on the forums and I have gained a lot of knowledge from all of you. I have been shaving with a straight for a little over a month now and there is no looking back, I love it.

I just bought this from an antique store today and cant really find much info on it. All I know is that I believe it was made around the 1840's? It looks like there are some markings on the blade. There appears to be a masonic compass, some stars, the sun and a crescent moon, and some other stuff I just cant tell what they are.

Any info would be great, Thanks for all your help!

The manufacturer is George Savage & Sons - the faded letter should read XX (the double X razor), "Patent Tempred". From the little on the web, seems to be from around 1840's, 1850's just like you say - nice find :)

VERY nice find. I've hard that Savage razors are great shavers and they are kind of few and far between. One of these days, I hope to find out how great they shave.

Savage George & Son, (John,) razor manufacturers and merchants, 52 Pond street FromWhites Directory of Sheffield 1852
