What's new

Can this dispenser be re-used?

I have an old empty Gillette Blue Blade dispenser like this one
proxy.php

Is there any easy way to refill it with new blades and reuse it over and over?
It is a PERFECT fit in the blade compartment of my SuperSpeed case whereas the modern dispensers never seem to fit quite right.

If it is a method that will cut my fingers off I will just squash this idea.
Thanks

This was discussed before, and it CAN be done, the dispenser will come apart, but the problem is you can't just set the blades in, they have to be interleaved with each other, one closer to one side, one closer to the other. This means you have to position each individual blade one by one, with the associated risk of losing blood.
There are other type dispensers which can be more easily refilled, such as the metal Schick type.

I have some old Schick dispensere which look to be from the sixties and also old silver colored Gillette dispensers. Can you post a link to the Shick type you were speaking of?

I've done a quick search, but I can't seem to find the thread. If I can't find it by tomorrow, I'll snap a pic of one I have and post it for you.

Also if there is grease or wax on the new blades you will need to remove that before adding them to the dispenser. The blades do not want to slide out right till it has been removed. That would further add to the risk of cutting your fingers! I have some older types that I have refilled some were easier then others to take apart & refill. You will always run the risk of minor & major damage when you handle razor blades so I guess it would be up to you to decide if it would be worth that risk...

Here's the bottom of one of those taken apart.

If you look closely at the bottom of the dispenser you'll see that there's three tabs on each side holding it together.

( In the original picture you posted, in the top right hand photo, you can see them as white tabs showing against the blue )

Gently prise the top tabs outwards and it should come apart.

As per Phil's post, see how the blades are interleaved.

If the blades you use have the glue/wax to hold them in the wrapper you'll have to clean it all off, as the blades have to slide free of each other when dispensed.

Be careful not to move the blades wen you reclip the top back on.

If you're careful it's not that dangerous but please don't cut yourself :001_tongu

Great photo Ian. Interesting thread guys. I don't bother loading a dispenser but if I did, this would be a great help.
