Can this be restored? C.V Heljestrand

Just got this straight razor (my first) from a friend and was wondering if it can be restored? Markings on the blade says No.30. Didn't get any other information on it. Tried some metalpolish but that didnt seem to work.

Those are ivory scales!

And the MK30 is a sweeeet blade.

This one looks close to toast though...

Savable? Perhaps, but it will take a lot of work.

Check the stickys, this one probably needs to be sanded from low grits to high & then polished.

It also looks chipped on the toe.

Good luck/Lycka till!

Due to ignorance, I will let others speak to the cleaning and refurbishing of the razor. As for the blade itself, it is very shave worthy!

In one picture, it looks narrower at the heel, while in another picture the blade doesn't look narrower. Even if the heel is narrower, it won't keep this blade from shaving well; it can be honed as is, without reconstruction of the blade.

But, this brings one to philosophical and aesthetic honing issues. All I've said so far relates to the practical. On a practical level, hone the blade as is, and it will shave very well. On a philosophical and aesthetic level, some reconstruction of the blade and spine might be called for. But, there is enough blade left, in my opinion, for this approach as well.

Typically, I live with the blade that exists unless the blade has a frown.

That is going to need a power of sanding and the tip ground to remove that chunk that is gone, but yeah, it can be restored IMO. It might be worth getting a few beaters off ebay or somewhere to practice on first, though. You don't want to be learning on a razor you care about.

I just noticed you were in Sweden, so shipping may be a lot, but if your willing to send it to me, I can unpin it and run it thru the buffers for you and repin at no charge! let me know, it appears to have a lot of rust, but it should clean up nicely, I can also grind the tip down and get rid of that chip on the tip. let me know bud! always nice to help someone getting started!
