I have 3 straights here and I am hoping that someone can give me some idea about the value of these razors if I were to sell them.
First let me explain why.... I have two issues that are totally beyond my control that make shaving with a straight all but impossible.
1. My beard is probably the toughest hair anyone has ever seen. I find most new DE blades tug and pull and hurt to shave with them. Its like using a 3 week old blade. Yes I do a good hot shower and wash my face and let the hot water run on my face and neck for at least 15 to 20 minutes before I get out of the shower. I lather my face and let it sit for a few minutes before I shave and all this does little to soften my beard. Having my straights honed to a scary sharp edge helped a lot and would have worked great except for......
2. This is probably the biggest problem, I have Ulner nerve entrapment of the left hand which is my dominant hand. That means the nerve that runs down your arm and behind your elbow (the funny bone) and down to the hand. This nerve controls the hand and when it is pinched most of the time it makes the outside half of the hand numb and limits some of the fine motor control of the whole hand.
Even with this I have always been able to think my way through how to make my hand do the things I need to do and make things work.
This has not been the case with straight shaving I did not realize how much feedback you need to get from your hand to shave with a straight. With out a sense of feeling and some of the fine motor control gone it is all but impossible to shave without doing some permanent damage to yourself This has been very frustrating for me.
Here are my 3 razors..(all are shave ready)
first is a henckels 4/8 shorty (it was like that when I got it). It has some minor pitting on the tang as you will see in the photos and a small spot on the face of the blade but nothing that is anywhere near the edge. It also looks like fine sanding lines that will most definitely polish out. The tip also looks like it was probably dinged and was ground off.
Next is a henckels Friodur 5/8 This razor is for all intents and purpose new. it was used once by me as far as I know no one else has ever used it.
The last one is a Bengall 6/8 I will post photos of this one in a new thread as this one is already too bogged down with photos already. The box with it is not for this razor but it came with it so I use it.
