Can different blade brands cause ingrown hairs?

Hello, I have a novice question. Do different blade brands cause some guys ingrown hairs? I am experiencing ingrown hairs with both Feather and Lord Platinum blades. I am using no pressure with sufficient prep. I have heard a theory that blades known for extreme sharpness can cut hair follicles differently or give a guy too close of a shave causing ingrowns. Should I just move on to milder blades such as Derby or Crystal? I use a mid 1960's Gillette Tech.

I guess no one has answer this, so I will give you a little input.

This is my experience and hope it helps.

I recently noticed that I do get different types of hairs depending on the blade.

If I use a sharp blade and let my hair grow, the feeling of the beard would be very rough. Hairs tend to be very thick and dark black.

When I use a smooth and less sharp blade, I get thinner hairs and less black in intensity. Plus it feels smoother as the hair grows. I am not sure if this is the same to all types of hairs.

I use a weishi razor and I am not sure if this helps with info.

I posted this information before but I forgot where I put it on. It was a similar question to yours.

I would love to see some input on this as well.

Take care,

Dark

I do notice a CLOSER shave with sharks than with walmart personnas. Obviously the limiting case of closeness is an ingrown. However, I have to imagine that the variation is small enough that blades aren't a major factor.

If you do an against-the-grain pass you might be better off eliminating it, because that does a lot to make a shave a closer and *I believe* could, in some individuals that are prone to ingrown hair make it so close that hairs can't grow out again properly.

That's a good question. I don't know for sure but from personal experience I do tend to get some ingrowns with different blades. I don't know if it's just coincidence or not. I usually have that problem with Feather blades.
