What's new

Calling all Microphone Geeks: My Samson Q2U plays back only static - and a LOT of it.

It's the strangest, and most annoying thing.

On playback cycles between:

a recording so full of static you can't hear the recording you made,

or

A recording that sounds like the recording you recorded.

And it goes 'round and 'round like this.

Win 10 1903

I have to believe everything is configured correctly. Otherwise, a) I'd never get a "proper" recording, and b) Everything in the Device Manager is free of warnings.

I've also "reinstalled" my drivers, not that, that helped any, because the problem still persists. Just this morning, I made a recording free of static. Two or three hours later, no voice, just an abundance of static.

What I did notice was that, at the Sound: Playback: when it was a recording full of static, the meter on the right hand side, was 80 or 90% filled. On a good recording that level is around 30% filled.

The mic is connected via USB.

I do have a second lavelier mic with a 3.5 jack. The problem is, the male jack is the older TRS, while my computer's 3.5 jack is TRRS. So, that's why it wasn't showing up in list of microphones available for use to the computer.

Thanks in advance,

Duggo
