Cade Aftershave Balm

It's been very cold & dry here in NYC. The perfect time of year, apparently, for L'Occitane's Cade balm.

Used it for the first time this morning. This stuff is ridiculously thick, rich & moisturizing -- a little goes a long way. Smells good too, altho much more muted than the splash (I vastly prefer the scent of the splash). Even so, great stuff for the winter. No doubt it'll serve as both a moisturizer & an aftershave (and even a hand cream, come to that).

What do you guys think?

I got some samples recently as well as a small tube. It's good, but not the holy grail and a little overpriced. I like it mainly for the scent and cold weather moisturizing capabilities. I agree that it's probably too thick to use for the warmer months. It doesn't smell quite as good as the aftershave splash or soap because of the "lotiony" aspect of it. Overall, quite good but could also be better.

What he said. I think it's pretty good but I prefer Pre de Provence balm. PdP seems to have a stronger scent that lasts a tad bit longer. It also seems to be a little thicker. That said, L'Occitane is a nice balm and I won't have a problem using the rest of the tube.

Initially I was disappointed with the "lotiony" smell, and don't think it helps much with razor irritation on its own. However, since I've added Thayers WH toner and bay rum to my post-shave routine, I am happier with the balm - much better than with the squirt of Lubriderm that I used to use. Sometimes I'll add a small drop of vetiver essential oil to the CADE balm to make the scent more pleasing to me (I'll have to check out the CADE splash, and their other scents, next time I venture to the mall). Looking forward to testing other balms whenever this tube finishes.

I'm not sure, but I think the CADE splash may be discontinued now. Some stores may have it though. So if you want it, it may be a good time to buy.

I like the L'Occitane BAUX ASB even more thatn the CADE, although I use both. Performance-wise it's the same, but I prefer the BAUX scent.

I like the Cade ASB, but as already noted, a little goes a long way. If my face is feeling dry I'll use it on my whole face as a moisturizer.

I stopped in my local L'Occitane shop today and they have plenty in stock. I asked about whether it has been discontinued, and the employees said they hadn't heard about that. You gents are right, it does smell pretty darn good! Much better than the ASB. Hopefully AD can hold out until it goes on sale!

Unfortunately they were sold out of their Vetyver EdT. I was hoping to cop a whiff of that. However, I thought the Baux frag to be very nice.

EDIT: I took a quick look on their website, and could not find the CADE splash. I did find a cached page for the product. On an unrelated note, maybe I should get back to work now.

I asked in my local L'Occitane shop about that. The salesgirl told me no, it hasn't been discontinued; they're just waiting for more. It's proven to be a very popular item. But she specifically told me, "Don't worry. It hasn't been discontinued."

Someone else emailed the company directly and was told it was discontinued. I did the same thing and got the same response.

Wow. I guess that overrides whatever an employee has to say. That kind of sucks -- it's good stuff! :mad3:

I asked the manager at my local store and she called their regional distribution center and they said that they just got a big supply of the after shave splash in and they're going to be pushing it down to the stores. That doesn't mean that it isn't out of production, but it at least means that you can buy some before it's gone.

Yeah, I just bought a bottle on amazon. Figured I might as well hoard a bottle away now that it's done for. :crying:
