'Caddy' commercials

All Cadillac commercials irritate me. The people appearing in their commercials are ruggedly handsome men and insanely gorgeous women. And RICH.

Well, I'm not handsome, nor am I rich, so I wish 'Caddy' would use 'real' people in their commercials. Yeah, right.

But that's just my opinion.

A Caddy??

You probably are not aware of what kind of car a "Caddy" is in this part of the world ... surely not for handsome and rich fellows :wink2:

well considering they all start at around 45-50K I think they are marketing to the right crowd.

compared with a VW commercial Cadillac stands out as the luxury brand which is what they want to do.

although you don't have to be rich to own one, or even good looking. I had one when I was 19 :001_cool: it was 5 years old when i got it and I still miss it!

Pick yourself up a Cadillac Cimarron. You don't have to be rich or good looking to drive one, in fact I think those qualities are frowned upon.

All the car ads feature guys driving like idiots endangering everything around them,as Honda Acura ads boldly state : "maximum agression !".....

Really? Car ads here mainly stress safety and the environment. If you believe the ads, the exhaust gases are almost cleaner than clean air, and they practically run on tap water

I don't think that car ads stressing agression and boldness appeal to the public here anymore. Not with the skyhigh petrol prices we pay in Europe.

I cut the cable cords awhile ago so I never see commercials. They tried to slip some onto Hulu but I worked around it. Never really minded the content of car commercials any more or less than beer commercials. If you're looking for hot, easy women a Cadillac won't help so let them sucker in anyone they can.

Are you joking? It's a luxury automobile. They're catering to their clientele. The same way pickup truck ads throw together every single overly masculine cliche to cater to "real men" with dirt in their nails and Budweisers in their fridge. That's how advertising works. The ads all come from the same place, though.

It isn't really a luxury car but I agree with what you're saying. Find your demographic and hit them hard. Sell them what you think will make them feel happy.

Reminds me of the Dacia commercial where a rich snobby couple didn't want to buy it anymore after they heard the price; it was too inexpensive for them ... I really wonder how that worked out for their image :wink2:

(of course they position themselves as budget cars, but still ... )

Just like everyone that goes to a casino has actor good looks and has unlimited cash to lose at the tables then spend more at the restaurants and stores. Welcome to fantasy land.

Isn't it? I don't know anything about cars. If you Google "Cadillac" the listing from the company's site introduces it as luxury. Whether it actually is, or isn't, I think the company is at least trying to sell itself as luxury and, thus, the advertisements reflect that.

I'm a little too handsome for Cadillac. I usually appear in ads for private spacecrafts and pants made out of diamonds.

I like the Subaru ad where the dad is driving in the blind spot of the school bus, while not watching the road because he's watching his daughter make friends on the bus on her first day of school.

You are missing the point.

If you buy a Cadillac, you will be transfigured into a ruggedly handsome rich man and insane gorgeous women will throw themselves at you.

Simple.

.

Yeah, but how come those ruggedly handsome rich men always need a shave? All the men in ads today, both on TV and print, try to mimic Sonny Crockett and do everything with at least 2 days growth of stubble on their faces. Even actors who go to red carpet events, like the Academy Awards or Grammys, look like bums.

Anyway, I don't see todays Cadillac as a true luxury car any more. With their size, appointments and pricing they're all in the ballpark of the other so called "luxury" cars like Mercedes, Lexus, Infiniti and Acura, and "luxury" has become a generic term. When I was a kid, the working man drove a Chevy, Buick or Ford and and only the ''Milburn Drysdales" had the Cadillacs and Imperials. Now, almost all cars, with the exception of the very least expensive, can be ordered with power windows, leather seats, and all the other bells and whistles that at one time were reserved for the true "luxury" automobiles.
