C&D Purple Cow

I had been considering re-seasoning my humidor and adding some sticks for the once in a while, when I spotted the cigar leaf pipe blend from C&D. I grabbed it when I put in the order last week, figuring it was a good way to step back into the cigar flavors. I had a pipe of it last night, and it is very much cigar like. Not positive I'm really a fan anymore since I've discovered the latakia and perique blends for the pipe. lol

Has anyone else that is a semi-regular cigar smoker tried that (or other pipe blends that are cigar like) that can comment on how similar they find the smoke to be compared to an actual cigar?

I wasn't a fan of the Purple Cow, but I usually don't go for maduro wrapped cigars either.

Cigars and pipes are different animals, and you're flavor preferences don't always parallel between the two. The only way to know if your tastes for cigars have changed is go grab a couple and do some experimenting.

I didn't find it cigar-like much myself. A cigar begs to be smoked, while the pipe needs to be sipped. That difference in itself made it non-cigar like. I gave mine away.

I have tried Purple Cow (and I love maduro cigars) and I did not care for it. Robusto from GLP is the only cigar leaf pipe tobacco that I enjoy. It is not very cigar like, but it does have some the flavor profiles. I agree with Commander & Kent that both are different animals and must be treated as such.

I've tried a few different blends with cigar leaf in them, and wasn't impressed with any. It appears to be better to smoke one or the other, but not both at the same time.

Since I hate wasting stuff, I'll cellar it for now, and revisit the blend at some point in the future. Between changing tastes and aging, maybe I'll find a time I really like it. lol
