I have a question for all of the leather craftsmen out here. I have worked with leather since I was a teenager. I've never had any real training. So, I don't know much about the weights and stuff when ordering leather. I like to go to re-enactments and similar festivals. This is where I always buy my leather. I pick out what looks right for what I need and buy it.
So, my questions. I want to make leather saddlebags for my motorcycle. Unfortunately, I don't have enough leather for this project. I was wondering where you guys recommend buying leather cheaply (that is a bit of an oxymoron) and what weight I should buy. Right now, I am just trying to get an idea of how much it will cost. It may be cheaper to buy saddlebags and alter them. I have a 1971 Honda CB 750 Four. Therefore, most bags don't actually work for my bike.
