Butterscotch Restoration Dilemma

In the spirit of Jack-in-the-Green's Which handle should I re-knot first? thread, I will submit the two butterscotch handles I have ready and waiting for a knot. They are both about 22mm and I was planning on trying the 22mm Finest Badger Fan Shape knot. They are very similar handles. The first is a Drake and the second is a Fuller just like the one fidjit restored previously here.

What do you think? Which one should I do?

Wow, they both look like good candidates for some new hair.

I would do the Fuller first....I don't exactly know why but the shiny black against the more "figured" butterscotch is my guess.

+1 , I am working on similar candidates.

I love the look and feel of my Fuller. I've been using it consistenly since I restore it.

Go the Fuller, yours is in much better condition than mine was and hopefully my restore helps avoid too many "traps" ( of course if you just use the standard shelf then there's not that many traps anyways, just watch out for the metal band around the knot with your drill/dremel :001_tt2: )

Go the Fuller...go the Fuller........ :thumbup1:

( oh and make sure you post the results  )

It seems most people agree with my instinct to go with the Fuller. It is a really nice looking handle. Once the knot is set, I'll post some more pictures.

Thanks!

You might consider the 20 mm version of the knots. Reason is that just the glue plug is about 22 mm and the brush get quite a bit wider just above the plug. If you want to reduce the loft and set the knot a bit deeper you definitely need a smaller knot.

Listen to the man. He knows.

Good advice, Rudy.

Just be aware on the Fuller that a 20mm will not sit well in the standard knot hole as there isn't enough depth and the diameter is too big ( I really wish I'd taken some accurate measurements )

If you use a 20mm you will have to drill out the standard knot shelf and make a new lower one !:001_rolle
