Burt's Bees Bay Rum Balm - best thing since sliced bread?

Burt's Bees Bay Rum Balm has been on my shelf for 15 years... until they discontinued it around 2008.

I really believe that it's the best bay rum balm ever made and I've tried just about every available brand while trying to find a replacement.
Albrey's Spice Island Balm is the closest substitute that I've been able to find and it's about 90% there but, the scent fades too quickly.

I was wondering if anyone else tired Burt's and do you like it as much as I do?

I recently broke down and purchased a NOS bottle for $40.00 even though the original price was $18.00.
Check out this label - it's got an incredible variety of perfectly blended flavors not found in most Bay Rum AS...

I used Burt's Bay Rum balm and thought as you did, very nice scent. I think that Captain's Bay Rum is pretty close

Have you tried Gilbert Henry Bay Rum ASB? The scent is wonderful, though I can't say that it lasts a particularly long time. As a balm, it does an incredible job of soothing and moisturizing, without being greasy in the least. Absorbs quickly, dries to a nice finish. Other than witch hazel, it's the one aftershave product I will never be without.

Is that Captain's Choice Bay Rum Splash that you're referring to?
If so, I have to say that it's my favorite splash. I've been suggesting, directly to the Captain, that he make a balm but, he said that a balm is still down the road a bit.

Gilbert Henry is a nice Bay Rum balm but, IMHO it's only about 75% of Burt's Bees. GH is indeed soothing and I've been mixing it with some of my other bay rum samples that I've bought.
Actually, I like Ogalala Sage & Cedar but, again it's not quite there.

I posted the label in the hopes that one of the AS companies will plagiarize the ingredients!

The Burts Bees was one of my favorites. I used it well before I got into the wet shaving rennaisance. It was the only decent thing I used (you know the deal, no proper prep, not paying attention to direction of hair growth, canned goo and cheap disposable cartridge razors). I used to think the Aubrey was a suitable replacement but after finding an old small travel bottle of BB's original at my house and doing a side by side a few years ago I came to the conclusion that it pales in comparison in terms of performance, quality of scent and strength of scent.

Hirsute

Used to have fun with Commander Yellow Pantyhose
Love Burt's bees! I still have a small travel bottle of the balm that I enjoy on rare occasions. I agree--nothing on the market quite like it. I found Ogalla was pretty good, bug the scent fades quickly.

Our stories sound identical.
Too bad about Burt's... the horror, the horror....

Treasure that balm while it lasts!

I have 2 bottles of Burt's Bay Rum. It really is a great balm. The scent is outstanding, and as far as balms go, it is one of the best I have used.

Nice to know I'm not alone. Too bad there aren't enough of us to petition Burt's Bees into resuming production!

So, since much time has past since the last post in this thread, has anyone found a "perfect" substitute for Burt's Bee's Bay Rum? I agree that Captain's Choice Bay Rum Aftershave is excellent, but it fades fast (Bay Rum colognes, not aftershaves, are extremely hard to find). Does their new Captain's Choice Bay Rum Shave Balm scent last longer?

The scent of the balm doesn't last any longer than the splash, but it is an almost perfect substitute for BB's.

Has anyone tried C.O. Bigelow - Bay Rum After-Shave Balm - No. 1401? How does it compare to
Burt's Bees Bay Rum Balm?
