Has anyone made this switch? Does it change the shave very noticeably? I love the look of the Muhle handle but wonder if I use a bulldog handle will I like it even better. Any help is, as always, greatly appreciated.

Yes, it does make a difference. But only a "fat shim on the other side" made the R89/DE89 head work good enough for me.
The Muhle will work with almost any modern handle. Something threaded for the FaTip would likely be the only exception.
I put a weber classic in my r41. Shave isn't any different, but it is much easier to hold with wet hands

Yep, I have an Ikon Bulldog II on R89. Really great.
I've also been using an Ikon Bulldog on my DE89 for a little while now. Works for me.
I've used my Weber Bulldog handle on my DE89 and now my R41. Its a great handle, heavy, with deep knurling. A real quality piece of kit.
