Building a shaving shelf....

Hey everyone; I started building a shaving shelf today based on THIS

Got most of the lengths cut and stained with some "gunstock" minwax. I used Kiln dried ash for the boards. Going for a rustic look. I'll toss some clear coat on it after.

I made mine bigger 24x18 instead of 20x16ish? and I'm not putting a door on mine, I instead, opted for more shelves.

I'm forcing a patina on the copper pipe and it will be used for a towel hanger. I'll toss a clear coat on it to maintain the patina for it's life, and to keep my towel clean.

2-3 more coats of stain and it should be as dark as I want it.

That's a cool project to undertake. I'd like to do the same but my wife doesn't want anything like that in the bathroom as I already have a small one level shelf with my SE's and DE's.

Keep us posted .

Thanks for the reply!

I will definitely do so, probably do some more work on it tomorrow evening. I'll get some more pics if I do.

Nice start. I would have cut the dovetails before the staining, but that's just me. :001_rolle

Can't wait to see the finished product - filled to the brim, of course.

Remember to forget me!
I look forward to seeing the finished creation.

I think my bathroom shaving gear would comfortably fit on less than half of one of those shelves :biggrin1:

Thanks everyone!

I was doing a little work on it today, got some more coats of stain on it and got the pipe patina-ing.

My last attempt didn't go so well, so this time I was more careful to follow the instructions and it looks fantastic so far.

The first pic is about 3 hours in, and the second pic is just after I got the first side done; maybe 20 mins in.

Here's a pic of the wood now. Most of it looks like this, but for some reason one side on a couple pieces was lighter so I'm touching them up.
