Brut Cologne- questions

I used to love this fragrance. It seems sadly to have joined the ranks lately of once noble fragrances that have been bastardized by some third world company that bought out the original maker. Last year I bought a bottle of spray cologne and when i tied it it smelled synthetic, none of the original's qualities. Optimist that I am, I tried another purchase, this time on Ebay, same thing. It is now made in Mexico. Funny- both bottles had the little silver decoration that was a hallmark of Brut, but it was loose in the bottom of the box.

I can locate the body splash at Walgreen's but that isn't much better. Anyone know, is this fragrance available in its original formulation anywhere?

I inherited a 6.75oz Bottle from my Dad, and found a 5oz bottle of the Faberge Version on e-bay for a reasonable price, you could also try Estate Sales.

you may want to try the cologne in the plastic bottle...sure, it's still made in Mexico but it smells way different from the glass spray bottle IMNSHO

In my opinion i'm afraid it is not. I have all the variations currently available and I feel there is something missing in all of them. The green medallion EDT bottle is probably the strongest but IMO the most synthetic smelling, the EDC in the green bottle seems a little weaker but a bit nicer than the EDT. The European squarish bottle of EDT is the closest to the original IMO, the opening is a little harsh but the drydown is pretty close but it is very weak. As for the after shave, I have a vintage bottle and the current euro version. The current juice is pretty much green alcohol with a hint of the brut smell, it does what it's supposed to in terms of soothing your face post-shave but compared to the vintage it isn't in any way related. Also I would add if you are gonna go on search of some of the old stuff be careful it can spoil, I have bought a few and some were a bit odd smelling, particularly ones in plastic bottles. Anyway I'm glad someone else has noticed it because it has been annoying me for sometime. Good luck getting some of the good stuff!

~~~Hi Kaiser!, if your statement I quoted here is to refute mine, I'm fine with that, we all have different experiences and the same juice will wear differently for many due to variations in body chemistry and what not...drug use, alcohol use, lack of personal hygene, on and on
But for me, using the Mexcian Brut I find in my local grocer in the plastic bottle, is way different from the glass atomizer bottle, also hecho en may he co. When I spritz the spray version, it smells far lighter and i get more lavender, yet lighter notes. I happen to use and like both. I also have and wear Brut A/S, and Brut Splash
Are there higher quality fougers out there?, you bet and I have a few in my wardrobe but for me wearing Brut is a pleasureable experience and one I wouldn't want to miss
FWIW, the most occasions I use Brut EdC (but not limited to) is when we walk our dogs. We have 3 rottwielers, a ***** and two males. The boys love it when I splash some EdC on my wrists and get some on my hands then touch their heads, necks so they get to wear a little of Dad's co lahg na. I don't do that w/Pen's English Fern but then Brut is only around a dollar an ounce=:)
Sorry Jake I wasn't aiming that at you, I should've quoted the OP in my post. As always YMMV but IMO there is something missing in the current formulation in comparison to the stuff of old. FWIW I am exactly the same as you I wear brut because I love it and I will always have it in my collection in what ever form it's available, and it's cheap! I just wish it was a bit longer lasting.
PS 3 Rottweilers and a liberal application of brut, kudos you are officially more manly than Mr T!!!
Kaiser, got it! Yep, so many of the re-formulations are more or less a let down for the masses...I can't say if I ever tried it back in the day, since it came out in 64' and I was 8 years old then. I remembeer having bottles of hai karate, jade east, some others (in the 70's), but couldn't say for sure what any one of them really smelled like back then
Now I don't know about being more manly than Mr. T...but both of us think we have rocks in our heads (sometimes) for taking on keeping 3 rotties at once. Have had pairs of them in the past but never 3 at a time, especially 2 males at once. What a handful at times but they really do (the boys) enjoy getting a bit of my frag on them, which gives me an excuse to wear some of the powerhouse frags more often than one normally would since I generally wash my hands after a walk with them and then there goes a lot of the scent but then eau d' rottie doesn't pair that well w/some of my other frags=:)
