Brush suggestions

I started DE shaving and brush lathering back in August, and I am starting to feel like I finally "get it" when it comes to lathering. I feel I can produce good, slick lather with both creams and soaps on a fairly consistent basis. Now that I know, for sure, that I will be sticking it out with brush lathering, I think it's time to invest in a better brush.

I currently have the cheap VDH boar brush (sitting in a cabinet, unused), and a Tweezerman badger brush (my every day brush). I also bought the C&E travel brush by Edwin Jagger, and although I liked it, the knot was just too small for me, and I traded it for some TOBS cream. I am looking for something that is going to be better quality than the Tweezerman, with softer hair, but a similar knot size. I don't really need anything bigger than that.

I do all of my lathering in a bowl, and I'd say it's about 50/50 between creams and soaps. Not looking for anything opulent, just a good, all-purpose brush. I'd like to keep the price somewhere around $50, if that's possible. Any and all suggestions welcomed...thanks!!!

I would recommend checking out Penworks. I ordered a Silvertip 20mm knot for My father and he really likes it. It appears that there are several to choose from given Your price range. Great service as well.

+1 on Penworks. They have lots of brushes under $50 now. My favorite is the Finest knot. Here's a $40 Finest. They have several on sale right now, too.

While I think the small company custom made brushes are great, I think a Rooney 3/1 or 2/1 should be on your list. Even thought they are $75, they are definitely worth it.
