Brush Stand or Not For My New Shavemac?

OK, so now I have this awesome new brush, but I didn't think about getting a brush stand for it. I've read a general post on the board that some folks think it is fine to stand the brush on its own, while others prefer a brush stand. Maybe it is just personal preference, but I don't have a preference yet! This is my first brush and I was planning on using it last night, but I hesitated because I wondered if it should be hung to dry! :blushing:

How about some personal input? Should I get a stand or not? Is it time to post a WTB or should my new brush stand on its own merit? :001_unsur

Opinions, please?

I would get a stand. The cheap plastic ones actually work fine for most brushes. That's what I use. On the other hand, maybe you want a fancy stand for a brush like that. One thing: I would advise storing your brush and stand outside the bathroom when not in use...too much moisture in the bathroom can lead to mold and bacteria growing on your brush.

Oh, wow... the thought of storing it outside the bathroom would not have crossed my mind. Thanks for the tip!

That's 2 votes for a stand.

It may or may not be needed, but for about $5.00, why not get one?

I've owed a Savile Row for 7 years and never used one, but decided to get one when I got my new Vulfix.

Regarding storing the brush outside the bathroom, that might be overkill. My family only showers in the morning. The rest of the time it's moisture free. But definitely don't store it in the medicine cabinet. But if you have children who shower in the morning, afternoon, and night, then it might be a good idea.

I don't believe there is a definitive right or wrong answer. So that only leaves...do what you want. I have seven brushes and I have seven stands, did I buy them because I felt like I would hurt my brushes if not hung in a stand? No, I bought them because I like the way they looked displayed on a stand in my shave cabinet, in fact I have a metel stand that I keep in my travel kit to use on the road. If you think you want a stand then get one, if not the brush will be fine stored on its base. Best of luck with your new brush whatever you decide.

I vote for a brush stand. If you want fancy or not depends upon you, but just a cheap plastic stand will work. And outside the bathroom as well!

The answer as is always with this question, is: do what you would like. If you want a stand, get one; if you would rather not have one, don't get one. The fact is hanging your brush upsided down in a stand does not prolong the life of your brush, nor does standing it upright on its end hurt it....the choice of a stand or not seems to be one of aesthetics.

I suggest if you are going to get one, get one that will look nice wherever it's gonna live.

Good luck!

Stand or not, capillary action makes it so that it doesn't matter.
It won't help your brush dry any faster or better, it's just for show.

For what its worth my Simpson Eagle 3 has never had the luxury of a stand and if it makes it to this summer it will be thirty years old!! It was my 1st and I'm kinda fond of the wee fella.

Oscar.

...and THERE is your answer!

I do use a stand for the one brush that fits it.

For my big brush, I prop it up on the rim of my G5 scuttle and let the handle rest against the wall so that the bristles point downward and hang free over the bowl. After it's dry, I stand it on it's handle with the brush up.

The box to my tweezerman says to dry it either hanging upside down or laying on it's side! Of course I threw the box away quite a while ago. Can some other tweezerman owner help verify this please! I know we're not talking same league but maybe there is something to drying bristles down or thereabouts! Also two new omegas last week, one boar and one badger, came with brush holders, bristles down. That tells me something! Enjoy the Shavemac, great looking brush!

Your brush is a beauty. Maybe something like this? They also have cheaper ones. I keep my brush stand on top of my bedroom dresser.

I brush stand works well for me; just a thought - you may want to see how that brush works/rests in a stand like mine.........I'd consider babysitting it for you just to see how a stand would work.....:lol:

(get a stand for that beautiful brush, dude!)
