Brush shedding hairs at an alarming rate - advice?

Longtime lurker first time poster.

My sole shaving brush, a Kent AP8, has been shedding hairs for a few months. For the last couple of months it's been losing around 10 hairs per lather. So far I've tried cleaning and disinfecting the brush, but it's done nothing to slow the shedding. The brush is around 4 years old.

Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this & how to prevent it? I'd hate to have to throw the brush away...

Have you done the shampoo and comb out treatment? Maybe try it a few times. When I have had to do this, and in the cases that it worked, it took a while for the shedding to stop completely.

Just make sure you comb it out once it is fully dried. Combing a wet brush can be disastrous. I would also recommend contacting Kent. I have heard of instances where they have been very generous to our members with damaged brushes.

+1, but call first, then take their direction.

Thanks, I think I'll try contacting Kent. My fear is that the knot has been damaged somehow, but I'll see what they say.

Worst case scenario is contact one of the vendors here ( I highly recommend Rudy Vey) and get it reknotted.

Thanks for the advice everyone - I contacted Kent and they replaced the brush free of charge! Definitely a +1 for Kent's customer service. I think I may have to buy another brush in gratitude...

Glad to hear they took care of you. Makes me feel more confident about buying another of their brushes in the future.
