What's new

Brush restoration question.

I have a question about a brush that I thought I try to restore. I found it in a box of books I bought at auction. The brush is a Ever-Ready. My question is, while drilling out the knot my drill bit grabbed and cut right thru the stuff holding the knot. I now have a big hole in the center of my brush right into the hollow part of the handle. Do I just stop and throw this one away, or can it salvaged? I can post pics later tonignt if that would help.

If I understand your question, you are saying there is a hole in the "floor" of the EverReady base....you can just fill this whole hollow with epoxy or a mixture of epoxy and sawdust until you reestablish a floor to set the new knot on.

The Sticky post above about restoration covers this....well worth a read.

Thanks for the reply. If I would have read all of the info in the sticky first I would have found the answer.:frown: Thank you again for your reply.

It is a long read, but it seems that many restorations have encountered a hollow base and if I remember correctly several ways to solve this were covered in the discussion.

Good luck it should make a nice new brush. I have an old EverReady that I am likely going to reknot sometime too.

Yep, happens to us all when we try. You can insert some cork into the opening and glue it in place with the marine epoxy...some have tried to mix a slurry of cork and epoxy and try to patch the hole, but it all depends on how big the hole is.
