Brush recommendation P&TY

My first and only brush so far is a Tweezerman, and I have discovered that I get horrible brush burn from this - even without shaving. I've ever tried bowl lathering and if I do much beyond painting the lather on I'll get pretty bad irritation. I'm waiting on a boar brush to try out, and hopefully the softness will cure the brush burn...

But I would eventually like to get a nice badger brush that's soft enough to not destroy my face. I'm looking for something that would be able to build decent lather from both soap and cream, as I feel I'll be in a never-ending trial phase. I'm guessing super/silver would be the answer for the most part, but I need something with very minimal scritch. It would be nice to spend around a $100 or less, but if there is something that stands heads above the rest I would be willing to dig a little deeper. Good brush should last for a long time, right?

Any recommednations would be greatly appreciated!

I use a semogue soc 2 band badger and it has lots of backbone and soft tips. I never get brush burn from it. Stay away from "pure" or "best" badger. My EJ best badger did give me brush burn a few times.

I'll also recommend a Semogue, but a 1305, which is boar.

A nice sturdy backbone, with tips as soft as Scarlett Johannson's instep.

Might the burn be allergy to animal hair? It might be worth trying a synthetic Mühle or Frank Shaving. They are excellent brushes and whip lather very nicely. The Frank Shaving is more dense than the Mühle.

You don't say how long you have been shaving with a brush and soap/cream- if you have always used the same lathering product there is a chance that your sensitivity is related to that and not to your brush at all. It does sound strange that you have experienced irritation after the lightest of latherings on your face.
I would suggest (if you haven't already done so) that you test a different soap or cream to see if you still have the same irritation problem. If it turns out that you still believe that your brush is at fault, it might be a good idea to get a boar brush and another badger. The boar will take some time to break in properly but the badger should be good straight out of the box.

This is definitely a possibility, but there are a lot of other people on here that experienced the same type of burn with the Tweezerman brush that was resolved by getting a nicer badger brush, which is why I leaned that way. Allergies to animals are typically caused by dandruff, not the actual hair, but who knows!

I've been shaving with a brush and creams for 6 or 7 months now. If I create the lather with the brush, then hand lather on I come away with no irritation of the type I identify as brush burn, but the lather never goes on my face very well or easily. I've tried a couple different creams now will no change in sensitivity to the brush.

I'm looking for some recommendations or guidance on silver/super brushes, or maybe a brand that has a really soft and comfortable best. Are Simpson brushes softer and less irritating than Kent? Or are Rooney brushes softer than both and an even better value?

Thanks for the help.

Another vote for a Semogue boar. Just pick a handle you like, all their knots are good. For the price, you would have a hard time finding something as good. If you want a good badger brush, I would check out the hobbyist section and look the the brushes BobFarvour makes. Very fair price and the TGN finest knots are really nice. I have 5 brushes with those knots.

I have a boar on the way, I'm looking to find out some information on on best/silver/super badges. Which brands are the softest and lease irritating? I've read how soft the Rooney silver brushes are, and they are the same price as Simpson best. Or are the Simpson best/silver that much better than the Rooneys. How do the shavemacs compare to the softness least irritating qualities that I'm looking for?

Softest?

Hands down the Kent BK8

Thäter. 'Nuff said.

Whipped Dog badgers are excellent brushes at an amazing price. Lots of different handles to choose from and outstanding customer service. I currently have a 24mm and will get another as soon as I decide on which handle I like the best.
