My oldest and most beloved brush, a Simpsons Persian Jar 3 in Super, has turned a light brown color over time. I noticed the discoloration recently owing to the acquisition of a few other brushes which are brand new. I am fairly certain that the discoloration is from exposure to hard water for an extended period of time several years ago. Nowadays the water my brushes are exposed to is consistently soft except for a few weeks of trips each year.
Other than the light brown discoloration, the brush seems to be perfectly fine.
What can I do to safely rid the brush of the discoloration?
If shampoo is the answer, can someone recommend a particular brand of shampoo which would be safe?
What about Dr. Bronner's liquid Castile soap? Is it safe for badger brushes?
