Brush filler

Hey everyone, my restoration is moving along, its an Ever-Ready 150, with 20mm TGN Silvertip knot, now, I hollowed it all out, and have used two nickels to add weight, now, other than cork, and more epoxy, what are some other fillers you guys like/have tried, I read about paper being used, I can see that working, just need to have everything sealed well...thanks.

I use RTX Silicone as a paste, it works as a filler too. I've also used salt suspended in a non-shrinking glue. You could try Plaster of Paris, that's what most of the vintages seem to have used.

I have used Plaster of Paris ,B Bs ,shot ,pennys ,nickels ,and dimes.
P o P if you dont want to add weight. That is what they used back in the
day. Cheers Rocket

I'm thinking of using fiberglass resin with a bit of lead shot mixed in for weight. That should work pretty well.

I've got some really good epoxy putty that's used to fill in nail holes and things like that, that works quite well. It sets rock hard and is drillable and sandable but it is quite light so it won't add too much extra weight.

Sawdust and epoxy are a good filler material, cotton wool and epoxy or sand and epoxy its endless really.

In a hollow handle, I used a brass rifle casing as a support column, with an aluminum disc epoxied on top - to fill the excess volume, cat litter (clean) was used:001_smile

I really like filling the gap in the brush with the plastic from a glue gun. Once it starts to cool you can push it down and pack it in to adjust loft while creating a nice water-proof surface where the knot can sit. Two-part epoxy adheres very well to this medium as well.

I like anything that will stick to the insides. The one thing I don't want is for my filler to shrink, let lose from the inside and then start knocking around. I like the resin/catalyst or epoxy mixed with whatever approach best I think.

On the other hand, maybe some loose BBs making noise while you shake it can make drying out the brush more interesting. The old cha-cha-cha thing. :001_smile
