Damaged by drying in the open air - compared to what? Being put in a case or a cabinet?

Could you explain what you're asking?

Exactly.
I would think a brush that was stored in a case or cabinet and did not have proper air circulation might not be dry and have rot ,mildew etc set in.

By open air I mean on the counter, up on the shelf, not in an enclosed space.

No damage from drying in the open air as opposed to my alternative, a 475 degree oven.

But to complicate things - I've never had a brush damaged by placing it in a travel tube, into a Dopp Kit, into a suitcase and then hitting the road for 24 hours either.

Conventional, convection, or microwave?

I think brick pizza ovens work best, although it's difficult to get the pepperoni smell out of the bristles.

Well, the only time I used the alternative was with a Gillette brush, and the oven was powered by "Fusion"

So barring contact with a 475° Fusion powered open air oven or a collision with a flying cow, there is nothing to worry about.
Well that puts my mind at ease.

No.. I put my brush on a shelf to dry and turn on a ceiling fan for a little while.. never had any problems...
