Brush Buying Binge Comes to a Close.maybe?

Well I just ordered a Thater 4125/2 I 26mm Two Band Finest Silver Tip Fan brush. So in the last three weeks I have bought a Rooney Heritage Stubby 3XL, a Duke 2 in best, a Chubby 2 in best, and now the Thater. Hopefully I am done buying for now but you never know, kinda want a Shavemac DO1. Now I just gotta thin the heard a bit by giving some of my old brushes to my step sons.

Im kind of rambling on here. What can you fine gentlemen tell me about Thater 2 bands?

"kinda want" a shavemac D01?!?

I will accept "I cant decide which handle to get", but certainly not "kinda want"

You NEED a D01 silvertip......and a D01 2-Band.....and........

Congratulations on ending your SBAD. However, I was in a very similar place until I ordered my Shavemacs D01's. If you only want one, I suggest the D01 3-band rather than the 2-band. It is firmer than conventional silvertip, and also has very, very soft tips. It is a delight. The D01 2-bands may need 4-6 weeks break-in time depending on your preference. The work is worth it, but it is a pain in the neck.

I went through this a couple months ago. I bought about 7 brushes in maybe a month to two months time and ended it around the first of the year with a Shavemac D01 Silvertip..... but I don't have a Thater and I still want a Thater. I will get a Thater someday.... and you will get a Shavemac D01 someday too. It's just a matter of time. I'd probably pick the Thater that you got except instead of the fan shaped knot I'd get the bulb.

You are going to love that Thater. I have the 4125/2 bulb. I've been using mine exclusively since getting it last week. It's super soft. It lathers like a dream with both soaps and creams. There's plenty of backbone to load soap. I only loaded DR Harris for 20 seconds this morning and had enough lather for 3 passes with a 4th washed down the drain. What I like most other than the super soft tips is the flow through.

I have the same itch for the D-01!

No tattoo mistakes!
I went nuts and acquired 30 badger brushes, but I only have one Thater, an SRP 2011 LE Fan (2-band). It's an outstanding brush. I really can't say I have a brush that's better, only that I like others better.

The handle shape isn't my favorite and the knot is a little big for me. But the hair is fantastic.

I also have one Semoque and one Omega with badger knots. Beyond those, however, I've adopted a strategy of limiting myself to brushes made in so-called England. This hasn't been effective in curtailing my SBAD, but at least it provides a curb.

I popped into this thread to laugh at the original poster who chose such a provocative title for the thread.

Being so strong right out of the box, I predict that you will be buying additional brushes in the future. :001_smile:001_smile

Here's the good news. Trying new brushes is fun, you can partially fund the purchase of new brushes by selling brushes that are fine, but may not be for you. (after you've been around awhile, you can use BST, which is a great resource for B&B members).

Set a budget for your SAB. You're in it for the long haul, so there's plenty of time to acquire shaving goodies.

LOL, resistance is futile my friend, there is no closure, no end .....btw, get that Thater, I would have gotten one by now if not for the insane shipping cost....

I also came out of the gate very strong. To make issues worse (better?), I also got into vintage handles and brush restoring. I still haven't figured out exactly why I like shaving brushes so much, but I am just going with it for now. I get a big kick out of selecting a brush each day (and then the subsequent use, of course). As the OP suggests with his title, I feel like my buying binge is slowing down, too, now that I have acquired and/or built so many nice brushes. Too many to truly enjoy, to be honest; I am starting to think about selecting a few for the BST, but I'm not quite there yet. I'm definitely developing preferences, though.

I have only one Shavemac (a silvertip in horn, bought used), but I really want to order a custom D01 3-band.

Oh, I almost forgot. My first nice brush was a Thäter 4125/0 3-band back in October. I still love it and have a soft spot for it, even as it gets crowded out of my cabinet. I have a used 2 band bulb (size 1) en route right now, so I am looking forward to trying the Thäter 2-band hair, too. Enjoy your brushes!

What? No Polo brushes?

Hmmm. Tell me about The Polo. You guys are terrible!

The Polo line is Simpsons "flag ship" brush (top of the line). The knots are as dense as the Chubby line only larger and they are BIG handles.

That pic does not give you an idea of the size of the brush so here is one of the Polo 12 towering over a BRW custom Progress razor (which ain't no tiny little razor either). The largest size is the Polo 14 but you need a crane operators license to handle that one

The Polo 8 filled my Georgetown G5 scuttle to the point that there was little room inside to make lather. The Polo 12 would not even fit in the scuttle. The Polo 12 made the Georgetown scuttle look like a brush scuttle
