Brush den complete! A lovely example of Simpson Manchurian just arrived. Soft tips, zero scritch, springy backbone and even a bit of splay on this one. I’ve never seen so much splay in a Manchurian and it was a welcome surprise. The added splay leads to an immersive face feel better lather generation, bloom, and lather holding. She dropped a few loose hairs in the test lather and has been golden ever since. A nice symmetrical hydrid tending I think a little towards the bulb (my personal favorite). Nice colouring too. Dark darks and long bright whites. I’m very happy with this one so far.

The brush self is now officially full and I’m onto other disorders.

Very nice brush my friend

My very first @Rudy Vey handle is on the way. I have it paired with a Turn n Shave 'shoat'/boar knot that's also on the way. Super excited. Rudy was fantastic to deal with. I could not recommend him more for a custom handle or a whole brush (and yes, I'm already planning on that whole brush given this experience).

I'm really digging this hourglass-plus-tulip-top shape as well. Photo is 'straight off the lathe' to give me input on any changes. I had none! Oh, and Milton at Turn n Shave not only has great knots (I understand he's hand-tying knots now too), but also amazing handles as well.

Quality of the 40%-off-Black-Friday-Sale WCS brush is amazing - very impressive.

The Simpson KH3 is little-discussed, but has superior ergonomics - it just feels great. Its backbone makes up for slightly small (for me ) 21mm knot. Just used and loved it!

I've got the popular Vie-Long horse brush with the the keyhole shape and metal ball handle - you've seen it. Though I love the feel of that brush, horse is "knot" for me. Way too floppy.

More vintage Lucite. This Ever-Ready is solid Lucite and lofted in the synthetic miracle fiber - Nylon! This was such a premium brush that somebody paid $6 for it. Then they tried to lather with it...

Not much sign of wear...

I may re-knot in boar. Or I might just keep it as a 'gazing ball' (gazing plinth?) in the shave garden.

More vintage! If 'vintage' means 'hammered' this MAYD-WELL exceeds expectations. It was probably built to a very utilitarian standard from the start. No element is elegant or dainty.

The knot is very bent, but it is surprising dense. There is no boasting about "set in rubber". It is just full of bristles, probably as many as it had on the day of its birth, long, long ago.

You could return the favor to our porcine brethren, and lather a full sized rip-snorting boar with this knot. I'm having second thoughts about re-knotting. Is there any way to turn this into a knot I would touch to my face?

Here are some Yaqi Synths I acquired at their 11/11 sale.

On the left is an Evil Zebra 26mm Knot Black and Red Handle
The middle one is a Yaqi Chianti's 24mm Purple/Pink Handle
The right one is a 26mm Rainbow Brown
Each one is different from my current collection in either size, fiber, and/or handle.

Did I need them? Not really, but they look nice. Will feel nice/different. Why not (knot)?

Just picked up a trio of yaqis. The 21mm silvertip in the middle may be the surprise star. One wash and lather and it already bloomed bigger than my 26mm synthetic turn n shave brush. The 26mm moka on the right fits wonderfully in the hand though. Haven't used it yet, but I think it will be a keeper.

Wanting to get more badger brushes, I took advantage of the Yaqi 11/11 sale and picked up three. These will complement the one that I had previously purchased and provide some variety.

The one on the left is a small, 22mm Sagrada Familia 2-band badger.
In the center is a 24mm Panda 2-band badger.
On the right is a 24mm Sky Deep Blue Handle Silvertip badger.

A different view show the original bloom (or lack of bloom) as they came out of the box.

Each of them had a very faint odor as the badger hair had not yet been washed or lathered.

I will be cleaning them up and use them a couple times to get them to bloom. More pics to come.
